 MikeThrasherPresents.com -- Show Details
Maxeen’s roots stretch all the way back to the Midwest—Akron, OH, to be exact—where the band’s California-born singer/songwriter/bassist Tom Bailey spent his formative years playing drums and concocting songs of adolescent heartbreak, railing against conformity, self-affirmation and the determination to succeed…all documented in his dad’s recording studio.
The subjects of Maxeen’s songs can be as simple as the first time you attend a rock concert, lose your virginity and experience heartbreak (“Poison June”) or try to navigate your way around L.A. without a car (“Shuffle My Feet”).
Maxeen isn’t afraid to move beyond that, either, with the album’s nods towards the likes of Neil Young, AC/DC and Chuck Berry (check out Shannon’s punked-up blues riffs on “Gettaway”) “We incorporate all kinds of influences,” says drummer Skowronek.

In Music We Trust - Maxeen: Maxeen
It's evident early on that Maxeen, in spite of their less than hip moniker, learned their lessons well in advance of tuning an instrument.
While the bulk of the material reaches into typically Emo-terrain with fond farewells and tearful laments, seriously inclined moments like the opening, "Please" or "Strangers," rant defiantly against abandoned youth and the music business, as "White Flag" and "Take The Weight Off" address the pressures of adolescent to adult life in unsettling "what-if" scenarios.
Maxeen is impressively charismatic, slightly daring, well balanced between modernity and retro, energetic and emotive without collapsing under the weight of its own despair.
