Maxie Rosenbloom, born September 6, 1903 in Harlem, New York City, United States – died March 6, 1976 in South Pasadena, California, was a boxing champion and film actor.
In 1972, Rosenbloom was inducted into the Ring Boxing Hall of Fame and the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1993.
On his passing in 1976, Maxie Rosenbloom was interred in the Valhalla Memorial Park Cemetery in North Hollywood, California.

Rosenbloom turned pro at the age of nineteen and quickly became ranked as a contender, placing tenth in the 1925 annual rankings by The Ring.
Rosenbloom took the decision in fifteen rounds and won the world light heavyweight championship, as recognized by the New York State Athletic Commission.
Rosenbloom held the title until 1934, when he lost a decision to Bob Olin, although many sports writers at ringside believed Rosenbloom had won.

An exceptional defensive boxer, Rosenbloom began his career as a slugger, but because he was not a strong puncher, altered his style and became a hit-and-run (defensive) boxer, figuring it would prolong his ring career.
By 1926, Rosenbloom had developed his hit-and-run style and acquired the nickname "Slapsie." That year, he also began to fight tough competition on a regular basis and was quite successful.
Rosenbloom won the bout (Flowers was disqualified in the ninth-round for a low blow), but did not win the title because it could not change hands on a foul.

Claiming he never took a drink, Maxie was still the last to leave the cafe's and dancehalls at dawn even on the days of a fight.
One of Maxie's funniest night-club lines was '" I quit fightin' because Joe Louis was afraid to fight me, yea, afraid he woulda killed me." That always brought laughter from the audience.
Maxie constantly challenged Louis at every turn but Joe's management team (Julian Black, John Roxsborough, Jack Blackburn and Mike Jacobs) wanted no part of Rosenbloom, who could not be intimidated by Louis and figured Max would make Joe look awful and hurt his box-office appeal with a bad showing.

In an era of great light-heavyweights like Maxie Rosenbloom, Tommy Loughran, Mickey Walker, Pete Latzo, and James Braddock, Lomski fought them all, and must be considered one of the best fighters in his division in the first-half of the 20th Century.
In August 1928, he fought a rematch with Maxie Rosenbloom that ended in a 10-round draw.
He then lost to Rosenbloom in March, and Mickey Walker in August, to end any hopes he had of fighting for the title that year.

After his retirement from boxing, Rosenbloom entered films, where he developed into an appealing if limited comic actor, playing punch-drunk pluguglies in such films as Nothing Sacred (1937), The Amazing Dr. Clitterhouse (1939), and Ringside Maisie (1941).
He also co-starred with fellow ex-pugilist Max Baer in a quartet of Columbia two-reelers, and as Clyde the Trainer on the 1954 TV series Joe Palooka.
In 1972, four years before his death, Maxie Rosenbloom was elected to the Boxing Hall of Fame.
