Newcastle's angular pop quintet Maxïmo Park consists of singer Paul Smith, guitarist Duncan Lloyd, bassist Archie Tiku, keyboardist Lukas Wooller, and drummer Tom English.
Maxïmo Park issued their debut 7", The Coast Is Always Changing/The Night I Lost My Head, in 2004; it caught the ears of Warp Records, who despite being a mostly electronic label, signed them and released their second single, "Apply Some Pressure," early in 2005, it made the Top 20 in the U.K.'s national charts.
Early in 2006, the B-sides collection Missing Songs was released; Maxïmo Park also maintained their hectic touring schedule and returned to the studio, with their second full-length due later that year.

Drawing comparisons to Pulp and Franz Ferdinand, Maxïmo Park were, along with cohorts The Futureheads, North-East England's response to the post-punk revival of the 2000s.
The five-piece Maxïmo Park formed in Newcastle, Tyne and Wear in April 2003, their name adapted from Maximo Gomez Park, a Havana meeting place for Cuban revolutionaries.
In 2005, they swiftly rose to indie fame and their debut album, A Certain Trigger, was hailed by some critics as one of the best releases of the year and has led to an increasing devoted fanbase in the United Kingdom.

On March 9th, 2005 I talked about Maximo Park after hearing they were playing their first U.S. show ever at Rothko in NYC on March 15th.
From NYC Maximo Park headed to Austin, Texas where they played the infamous SXSW party located in the house of blogger Ben Brown.
True, Maximo Park are not pioneers, but I was so surprised at how entertaining they were at Rothko that I ended up seeing them again the following night at Mercury Lounge.

British indie rockers Maximo Park have been forced to cancel their upcoming appearance at the Royal Albert Hall on March 30th because their guitarist Duncan Lloyd broke his arm.
Maximo Park have since confirmed after an operation on Lloyd’s arm that they will be unable to play the March 30 show, and are offering refunds to all who purchased tickets via SeeTickets.
The performance was intended to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust and feature not only Maximo Park but co-headliners Razorlight.

As you'd probably guessed, the fact that Newcastle based Maximo Park are a guitar band and inhabit the bleeping Warp roster means that they're not your average straight-laced, semi-skimmed Indie group.
Instead they are a collision of spiky guitars and convulsing rhythms which have an addictively infectious melody etched all over them that resolutely proves pop music doesn't have to be a dirty concept.
If you're into the Futureheads or the Kaiser Chiefs you'll already adore 'Apply Some Pressure', if you don't then take a punt on this and you'll see why they are being feted everywhere from the NME to the Breezeblock.
