The Maximum Power Principle (or "MPP") states that all open systems (Bernard cells, ecosystems, people, societies, etc.) evolve to degrade as much energy as possible while allowing for the continued existence of the larger systems they are part of.

In short, the biological goal of any social animal's mind is "maximum social power" -- to reproduce as many of the genes that created it as possible -- and every social animal's most important tool is politics.

Talk:Maximum power theorem - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I suggest that the Maximum power article be renamed to Maximum power principle and this article on Max power theorem be left un-altered.
The maximum power article was meant to document the use of maximum power in ecology by H.T.Odum, who considered maximum power the 4th principle of energetics (following on from the first 4 laws of thermodynamics).
I suggest that this article be merged with the maximum power article including the history of the development of the theorem, together with a section applications such as those in systems ecology, and biology for example.

It is well-known that the maximum of the solution of a linear elliptic equation can be estimated in terms of the boundary data provided the coefficient of the gradient term is either integrable to an appropriate power or blows up like a small negative power of distance to the boundary.

Apushkinskaya and Nazarov showed that a similar estimate holds if this term is a sum of such functions provided the boundary of the domain is sufficiently smooth and a Dirichlet condition is prescribed.

But such a principle is an instrumental principle for artifacts and has nothing to do with a natural principle such as the principle of maximum entropy whatsoever.
There is no principle of nature that has been the subject of so much bias as the principle that an isolated system tends toward a homogeneous distribution of energy, especially when the universe itself is looked upon as such a system.
When considering the tendency toward maximum entropy again, some might also be tempted here to believe that, if anything, extremity is favored, that is, either the extremity of a maximum entropy or the extremity of a maximum distance between particles.

Maximum-entropy approach to series extrapolation and analytic continuation
They suggest a well-defined way to map the extrapolation problem onto a moment problem, and show that the use of additional information about the function being extrapolated (such as asymptotic behaviour for large arguments) is important to obtaining accurate extrapolations.

Federal wage-setting power assumes the government has authority to set a maximum wage, as well as a minimum.
Indeed, those who may celebrate the recent wage hike should remember that the same principle that permits the federal government to set higher wages is the very principle which has been used in the past, and will likely again be used in the future, to cap wages.
This means wage earners are being squeezed by the cost of government as well as the cost of living.

 The pump-fed power station
The principle of a pump-fed power station is that water is pumped up to reservoir at night, when electricity demand is low, and then released in the daytime to satisfy peak demands.
The maximum electricity output of the pumping station, 540 MW, would have been about equivalent to that of a nuclear power station.
The pumping station with its basin on the top of Vaarunvuori hill would have worked by electricity, being a short period peak power station.

This principle, in effect, provides for the decisive application of maximum available combat power toward the attainment of the objective.
The assigned objectives prevented the division from exerting its maximum power in one direction and, therefore, the Principle of Unity of Command was not fully applied in this operation.
The purpose of this article is to analyze Operation Schmidt in the light of the nine United States Army Principles of War in order to determine whether or not the failure of the operation was caused by violations in the proper application of those principles.

It contemplated the reduction of State power over the individual to an absolute minimum, and the raising of social power to its maximum; as against the principle of Statism, which contemplates the precise opposite.
In a word, it established the principle of individualism as against Statism — against the principle underlying all the collectivist doctrines which are everywhere dominant at the present time.
For example, Statism postulates the doctrine that the citizen has no rights which the State is bound to respect; the only rights he has are those which the State grants him, and which the State may attenuate or revoke at its own pleasure.

The formulation of Carnot theorem and formula for maximum of renewable conversion has been derived in scope of proposed application of Carnot principle for thermodynamic consideration of non-equilibrium light/matter interaction for energy conversion.
In order to involve solar light under non-equilibrium with respect to matter as a motive power within thermodynamics, it is proposed to assume that principle of Carnot formulated for heat engines is also valid for renewable processes (cycles) between an illuminated (source) and a dark (sink) part of a condensed fluid by local optical pumping.
In brief, since the solar light as a blackbody radiation with temperature 5700K in typical experiments by absorption with temperature of matter 300K is irreversible we can not, in principle, use standard reversible form of theorem and its classical derivation in principle.

TARIFF SCHEDULES FOR HIGH TENSION CONSUMER
The maximum demand of the supply in each month shall be four times the largest number of kilovolt ampere hours delivered at the point of supply during any consecutive 15 minutes during the month as per sliding window principle of measurement of demand.
Provided that if as a result of an emergency in the consumer’s installation or in the transmission lines supplying energy to the said traction sub-station, extra load is taken by the consumer, the period of such emergency shall not be taken into account for the purpose of working out the maximum demand.
If the average monthly power factor of the consumer increases above 95%, incentive shall be payable for each one percent increase by which the average monthly power factor is above 95%, at the rate of 1% (one percent) on total amount of bill under the heads of “Demand Charge” and “Energy Charge”.

 Micro hydropower basic: introduction
The basic principle of hydropower is that if water can be piped from a certain level to a lower level, then the resulting water pressure can be used to do work.
there is always a maximum useful power output available from a given hydropower site, which limits the level of expansion of activities which make use of the power,
In the ancient times waterwheels were used already, but only at the beginning of the nineteenth century with the invention of the hydro turbine the use of hydropower got a new impulse.

In Internal Martial Arts, one of the aims of the training is to move in such a way that at any time we can bring the maximum power of the body to bear on any potential opponent.
As in other martial arts, one learns techniques for fighting and self-defence but in internal martial arts there is one extra requirement that must be learned first - how to acquire Internal Power.
However it is this process of finding and building the Internal Power that made internal martial arts so valuable as a system for improving and maintaining one's health.

Duncan Hallas: Do We Support Reformist Demands? (1973)
The left wingers suspected, and with some reason, that the ‘palliatives’ which were acceptable in principle to non-socialist radicals, some liberals and so on, were what really interested the ‘opportunist’ leadership (Hyndman, Quelch, etc.) and that the maximum programme was being relegated to the never- never land of the distant future.
When they split from the main body, one group forming the Socialist Labour Party (SLP) in 1903, another the Socialist Party of Great Britain (SPGB) in 1904, they safeguarded their revolutionary purity by dropping the ‘palliatiives’ and standing simply and solely on the maximum programme.
To overcome this limitation the workers need to organise themselves into a socialist political party aiming solely at the capture of political power to establish socialism (i.e.

Pappas states that many UHF stations have not constructed their maximum facilities, and that the principle reason for this is that until very recently, high- power UHF broadcast equipment capable of operating with sufficient efficiency to justify its installation in many small markets was simply not available.
Smith supports reserving the top ten channels of the UHF band for low power service, whether it be channels 51-59 or 60-69 and states that we should allow displaced stations the first opportunity to move to these channels.
Holston also recommends that all DTV channels be located in the UHF band as a means to avoid impulse noise in the VHF bands and to avoid repacking stations at the end of the transition.
