Maxixe - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The maxixe (occasionally known as the Brazilian tango) is a dance, with its accompanying music, that originated in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in the 1870s at about the same time as the tango was developing in Argentina and Uruguay.
Like the Tango, the Maxixe travelled to Europe and the United States in the early years of the twentieth century.
The Maxixe was one of the dances that contributed to the samba and lambada.

 Maxixe
The Maxixe (Mah-SHEESH) is Africanized polka, meaning it was an Afro-Brazilian styling of the polka brought to Brazil by European immigrants.
After the Maxixe: Wistful of his 1912 success, Monsieur Duque traveled back to Brazil ten years later to see what the latest version of the dance looked like and found that it was bouncier, no longer traveled line of dance, had some new variations, and was sometimes called Samba.
Maxixe 2 has the better ending (the step-kicks) so plan to finish with that sequence.

Played by the so-called "pianists", who interpreted it according to the syncopated motifs of the lundu, or by instrumental groups linked with the ancient music of the "barbers", consisting of flute and clarinet, the polka was the origin of the maxixe and the choro, two basic genres in the birth of popular foreign modern music.
Overlaid with traces of maxixe, the polka spread through the middle classes by means of a flourishing market in scores that met the demands of repertoire for girl pianists confined to the domestic area.
The contradictory movements of the rejection and acceptance of the maxixe and the samba by the elite and by official institutions are an example of that "dialectic of malandragem (roguery)" by means of which popular music, as a marginal phenomenon, was gradually transformed into the sign and symbol of modern Brazil.

The transparent stone, the colour of blue velvet, could be a new gemstone, according to a federal agency that described it as a jaw-dropping discovery.
The blue crystals, which measure a millimetre to 2.5 centimetres across, are said to range in colour from pale blue to sapphire blue to pale green.
If the stones prove to be a Canadian version of maxixe, they apparently do not share the Brazilian gem's tendency to fade to a near colourless state when exposed to the sun.

This pattern of dichroism is the exact opposite of a typical aquamarine, but is similar to the polarization seen in maxixe beryls.
However, unlike maxixe, the new blue gemstone is stable in light over time and does not fade in colour.
The blue colour in maxixe is apparently due to natural irradiation, whereas the colour of our beryl is due to the substituting elements (most likely Fe2+, see above).

In the Morro [hills surrounding Rio], samba is batucada.
However, the Samba rhythm has older origins linked to the rituals of the Afro-Brazilian Candomble religion and to the lives of the fl refugees who at the beginning of the twentieth century fled from Bahai in the north east of Brazil to Rio.
The band however, continued to develop their music and with it inspired a new dance style called Samba-Carioca (Samba of Rio de Janeiro) that since the 1930s has become popular in the USA and the UK.
