For 80 years, the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs has been committed to educating the next generation of decision makers in the public sector.
Inaugurated in 1924, Maxwell is the only major school of public affairs in which the professional disciplines of public administration and international relations are intermingled with traditional scholarly work in the social sciences.
Maxwell’s MPA program, the oldest continuously operating such program of its kind, has been a consistent leader among the more than 250 graduate programs in public affairs across the United States.

Floyd Henry Allport is considered the founder of social psychology as a scientific discipline and was a member of the original faculty at Syracuse University's Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs.
Allport was Instructor in Psychology at Harvard and Radcliffe from 1919 to 1922, and Associate Professor at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, from 1922 to 1924.
In 1924, Allport became one of the original faculty members at Syracuse University's Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs and was full professor of Social and Political Psychology from 1924 until 1956.

Maxwell Dean Mitchel Wallerstein, Associate Dean Michael Wasylenko, and the Maxwell School specifically, should be congratulated for not only placing first in the nation but for placing SU on the map of collegiate hierarchy.
The Maxwell faculty is also at the forefront of policy research and analysis and resides in various world-renowned Maxwell institutes, such as the Public Affairs Institute and the Global Affairs Institute.
