Bought the Dynax (Maxxum) 7 with a Dynax (Maxxum) 5 and the standard 28-80 (D) and 70-300 (D) lenses.
I guess the Maxxum 7 is next, and I'll use my R 5 Leica just for home portrait shots in case it fails again..They still can't find the problem, probably loose connection they say.

There have been some noticable improvements in camera performance since the 7000, of which the best are in terms of user interface.
In the short run, any later version of a Minolta Maxxum camera that you buy (that is the equal to the 7000 in terms of features) you will find is simply a nicer camera that your older 7000.
I have Maxxums that span from the 7000 to the 7, and I love them all.

General comments only--I have owned a 7000 since new and have had zero problems so far.
My feeling is that the 7000 is not well protected against moisture and dust, which may explain the range of problems that people have experienced.

 A Cheap Cable Release for the Maxxum 7000
I wanted to build a cable release for my Maxxums for long exposures (the maxxum will only time 30s exposures, anything more needs bulb mode) and to reduce shake.
The Maxxum 7000 has a 3-pin electrical cable release setup instead of the common physical push button type thingy.
Seems to me it should be simple to build my own release for this thing and given that a new one from Minolta is about $100 and only includes momentary focus / shutter release buttons I decided to go for it.

For Christmas 2004 Anji bought me a Minolta Maxxum 7000 SLR camera.
The Maxxum 7000 was the worlds first SLR with integrated autofocus and was released in '85.
By todays standards the autofocus isn't as smart as it could be and it's rather slow but it's very sharp.
