	What is the May 2nd Movement?
		The May 2nd Movement was formed to fight against a politics of default, specifically by organizing student protest and revolt against our government's savage war on the people of Vietnam.
		The May 2nd movement opposes this 1965 version of imperialism--the corporations that exact superprofits, the military machine that enforces the system by violence and the cultural establishment that maintains the system abroad and at home, by racism, ignorance, lies and suppression of the socially creative forces within man himself.
		May 2nd chapters put forward the idea that students must fight for control of their schools, and that by working together we can win fundamental changes in our day-to-day life.

		May 2002 marked the twelfth consecutive month with near to much below normal precipitation for the Southwest region (see top graph below right).
		Unlike 2000, when only 22% of the contiguous U.S. was in severe to extreme drought at the end of May (based on the Palmer Hydrological Drought Index), the same level of drought severity now affects more than 29% of the U.S. with the potential for worsening conditions as the country enters the summer season.
		By the end of May 2002, the Palmer Hydrological Drought Index, integrated across the summer 2000 wildfire region, had reached levels comparable to the severity experienced during the peak (July-September) of the summer 2000 fire season.

		The May 2nd demonstrations against the war in Vietnam were held in a number of cities - hundreds marched in New York City, San Francisco, and smaller numbers of young people protested in other cities.
		On August 8, 1964, the May 2nd Movement held a protest in New York City against the war in Vietnam, where several people were arrested.
		In February of 1966 members of the May 2nd Movement disbanded the group, and many of the M2M members joined Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), in an attempt to recruit SDS members into the PLP.

	Japan in May
		The Constitution of Japan came into force on May 3, 1947 leading to the annual celebration of the event.
