Maymont is a 100 acre (400,000 m²) Victorian estate in Richmond, Virginia with a museum, formal gardens, native wildlife exhibits, nature center, carriage collection, and petting zoo known as "The Maymont Children's Farm".
The Japanese gardens located at Maymount are well tended and cared for and consist of numerous koi ponds as well as a large waterfall coming down from the terrace.
Maymont's gardens are popular for outdoor weddings focused around the rose gardens, the japanese gardens, the waterfalls, or other numerous gazebos located throughout the grounds.

A few Maymont veterinarians to whom the bears were members of their family fought back tears of their own as they addressed the crowd about the events of the past week.
And anger at this morning's revelation that the remains of the bears were buried in an area landfill rather than on the park grounds.
As the investigation continues, I hope that the public won't take their frustrations out on Maymont: it is clear from talking to the various workers at Maymont that that the entire staff is devastated by the situation, as much, if not more so than the many visitors to whom the bears brought such joy.

Two fls bears at Maymont Park were euthanized after one of the animals bit a child last weekend.
If the child fell off the 4 foot fence before he climbed over, let me guess, sue the park, oh know better yet lets give the needle to the person that put the fence up, since it was only 4 feet and then the chain link had holes in it.
And after the child was bitten they left the park (with out telling ANY park officials about the bite) and three or four hours later went to the hospital.

We are writing in regard to the two fl bears who were killed at Maymont Park after a child climbed over a fence and was bitten by one of them.
Wild bears who are "orphaned" or classified as "problem bears" are not being saved when facilities such as Maymont cage them for display; they are being doomed to a miserable life of boredom and denied everything that is natural and important to them.
Orphaned bears should instead be turned over to a wildlife rehabilitation center for eventual release back to the wild, and state wildlife agencies should be forced to address the human-related causes of "problem bears" and find humane ways of dealing with them that do not involve removing them from their natural home in the wild.
