The excellent gold potential of Mayo Kebbi has been known since the 1940’s, but it was not until 1987 that a significant geochemical survey was carried out in the volcano-sedimentary greenschists of this region, during the UNDP/DRGM project.
Large reserves of limestone have been found in the Mayo Kebbi, Guéra, Ouddaï, and Ennedi regions, as well as north of the Tibesti and in the Ténéré regions.
Limestone is mined in the Louga (Mayo Kebbi) quarry, where lime is produced using artisanal methods.
