Henning Scherf (born 31 October 1938 in Bremen) is a German lawyer and politician.
He is the incumbent Mayor of Bremen and also Bremen's current Senator (Minister) of Law and Constitution.
From 1978 on he has been a member of Bremen Senate (government) in various functions some of which were: Senator for Finances, Senator for Youth and Social Issues, Senator for Health and Sport, Second Mayor, Senator for Education and Sciences and Senator of Law and Constitution.

Bremen's top security official, Kuno Boese, said last night that the letter, written on Thursday, showed that the crime had "a radical Islamic motive".

In 1905 a rundown carpenter from Bremen, Ernst Schlick, 'manufactured' a number of these fake and extremely rare stamps for the usual reasons (how many is not known).
The merchant needed the money to pay his debt, so the mayor decided to lend the money from the town cashbox, but he sincerely promised to himself to pay them back as soon as he could visit the local bank the next day.
