R.T. Rybak was elected Mayor of Minneapolis in November of 2001 in his first run for public office with 65 percent of the vote.
Mayor Rybak was the keynote speaker at Fannie Mae’s national conference on minority homeownership in 2002 and for Washington state’s annual housing conference in 2003.
Mayor Rybak is a lifelong Minneapolis resident and the son of a druggist in the Phillips neighborhood.

Fair play in the employment and housing market is in the best interests of a majority of Minneapolis residents who have to work for a living.

Remember the Mayor’s News did not say police calls for the city went down only on the blocks the problem people were displaced from to create more chaos and destruction somewhere else.
Since the Mayor has accurately determined that targeting repeat offenders is the key to a successful solution of the problem, it would follow that people who routinely generate police calls for drug, alcohol, domestic, vandalism and other low level crimes be placed in a housing facility that could be monitored and isolated.
After discussing the problems with the Mayor, I was assured he wanted to meet with the business owners in the area to discuss the issues.

According to a FBI report released Monday, violent crimes in Minneapolis increased 35 percent in 2005 -- more than any other Midwestern city and one of the largest increases in the nation.
In the afternoon on Monday, the Minneapolis Police Department rebuffed the original figure, saying the increase in violent crimes is actually closer to 15 percent.
I hope that Minneapolis leaders take note; time is short because the news is spreading fast.
