Mayor Peter Kelly of the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM), has issued a challenge to the mayors of other major communities in the Atlantic Provinces to participate in the first-ever Earth Car-Free Day on April 19.
To compare HRM's participation rate to other communities in the region and to make Car-Free Day a truly Atlantic Provinces event, Halifax Regional Council has issued an official challenge to other major centers in the region to better, or at least tie, their citizen participation rate.
Letters of Official Challenge were sent to the Mayors of Sydney, Nova Scotia; Moncton, Saint John, and Fredericton, New Brunswick; Charlottetown and Summerside, PEI; and St. John's, Newfoundland.

I am referring specifically to the approach Halifax Regional Municipality is taking on the issue of slum landlords through municipal bylaw M-100, which addresses slum housing.
Halifax regards itself as a “SuperCity.” If Halifax wants to talk the talk, then it should implement emergency housing facilities as has been done in real cities like Winnipeg and Toronto.
We can’t allow businesses such as the Halifax Alehouse and Corporate Communications Ltd. to think for even a second that billboards such as this (nor the underlying feelings and beliefs necessary in imagining such a campaign in the first place) will be tolerated.

I would be remiss if I did not also mention the recent support of the Halifax Regional Municipal Council and its mayor and thank them on behalf of the people of Dartmouth for their efforts in including Dartmouth as a major player in the municipality.
The citizens of mainland Halifax have been fortunate to have the Waterfront Development Corporation manage their waterfront development over the past 10 years, and the WDC has done a magnificent job.
I want to also congratulate my colleague across the floor, the member for Halifax Fairview, who today was also sworn in as a Member of the Legislative Assembly.
