Maysan (Arabic: ميسان) is one of the governorates of Iraq.
The governorate is traditionally home to many Marsh Arabs.
A proposal to join Maysan with the neighbouring governorates of Basra and Dhi Qar to form a southeastern state in an eventual Iraqi federation is currently in the talking stages.

Maysan Governorate Council Chairman Ali Hammud al-Musawi told Al-Jazeera on 10 August that the governorate would interrupt oil supplies flowing through Maysan and block all intercity highways until Baghdad changes its stance.
Any attempts by the governorates to secede could provoke a civil war in Iraq; 90 percent of Iraq's oil reserves are located in the south.

The Health Department at Maysan Governorate has held its first medical conference for primary healthcare under the slogan of "Let us work together to improve the health situation in our governorate".
He noted that the research papers discussed at the conference had underlined the governorate's need for a blood bank to assist the Thalassemia patients in the governorate, who number 200.
The conference also touched on the shortage of ambulances to meet the needs of the health institutions in the governorate as well as the shortage of medicines needed for chronic diseases.

This brutal aggression resulted in the death of three citizens and the wounding of 16 others, as well as the total destruction of a mosque on the outskirts of the city of Nasiriyah, a few metres from the house of the Prophet Abraham, peace be upon him.

Al-Mada publishes on page 2 a 120-word report saying that the Al-Najaf Governor As'ad abu Kalal has presided over a meeting for the public service departments to discuss the spread of typhoid in Al-Najaf Governorate due to polluted drinking water, adding that the Council has closed a primary school for the same reason.
The report also quotes the governor confirming that there is a severe shortage in medical supplies and that the supply is 34% short of demand.

Ockenden International, IOM's partner in neighbouring Maysan governorate to the south, has identified an estimated 12,000 IDPs staying with host families in Al Amrah.
IOM, at the request of the UN and under the overall responsibility of the UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Iraq, is coordinating the efforts of NGOs and others in registering IDPs, managing camps, distributing non-food items, and eventually helping people to return to their homes.

The bad news is that many Iraqis themselves in the south believe that the British pull-out from Maysan and Muthanna provinces is premature.
He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.
Al-Zaman reports that the US is engaged in discussions with the governor of Ninevah province on the possibility of the draw-down of US troops in that province.

The risks were underlined last week when two vehicles belonging to the Lutheran World Federation (LWF), IOM’s partner NGO in the western Al Anbar governorate, were forced off the main road and robbed by gunmen 100 km west of Baghdad near Ar Ramdi.
Its network of 15 governorate focal point (GFP) NGOs use a standardized, IOM-designed framework, database and reporting structure to target assistance at the most vulnerable IDPs.

According to the report, the Iraqi Property Claims Commission established by the former Coalition Provisional Authority has done little to help alleviate the crisis.
