The Mayurbhanj Leprosy Hospital has stood the test of time for over a century and discharged "enviable service for the poor and the needy but is now facing an uncertain future because of the callous indifference of the state government," he said.

The entire Mayurbhanj forests including the Simlipal Tiger has been surveyed long ago and the rights were settled when the tiger reserve was declared.
The ex-Maharaja of Mayurbhanj had an excellent forest service set up with British officers who took great pains in surveying and notifying the forest blocks in the late 19th and early 20th century.
