Mazda had for some time shown interest in the rotary engine, and had finally bought a licence from NSU to build their own version after shipping samples from Germany.
The first Mazda to be fitted with a rotary was the Cosmo 110S coupe, it also sharing the honour of being the first mass-produced rotary powered car in the world.

This was the only production Mazda Wankel with different rotor dimensions: Diameter was 120 mm (4.7 in) and offset was 17.5 mm (0.7 in), but depth remained the same as the 10A at 60 mm (2.4 in).
The only other 4-rotor engine from Mazda was used exclusively for the various Mazda-built GT cars (including the 767B and 787B).

The Mazda Roadpacer was a full-size sedan sold by Mazda Motor Corp. of Japan between 1975 and 1977.
Gadgets of note include a central locking system that activated when the car hit 10 km/h, a chime system that activated at 90 km/h, a dictation system and a stereo (likely with an 8-track system) able to be controlled from both front and back seats.
Originally intended as transport for high-ranking Government officials, the car was sold in the wake of the first fuel crisis and was not a commercial success.

I understood that Mazda manufactured the rotors and housings for Nissan and Toyota and the rest of the engines were in house.
Mazda is running out of time with the patent protection for the rotary so soon other manufacturers(Nissan among others) will come up with their own versions.

I've never heard of Mazda putting a rotary in a Holden before.
It was a Japan only model when Mazda was trying to inch up-market.
Even Mazda had tons of problems with the rotary- it took years to refine the design.

The Roadpacer always reminds me of the Dodge Dart of the same vintage or thereabouts, despite the techniques brought into post-war Japanese industry by W. Edwards Demming.
The design folks in the Mazda stable have come a long way from those 'cheap imitation' days and are turning out exceptional designs since early 90's.
