The Mbomou River (sometimes transliterated Bomu) forms part of the boundary between the (A landlocked country in central Africa; formerly under French control; became independent in 1960) Central African Republic (CAR) and the (A republic in central Africa; achieved independence from Belgium in 1960) Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
The Mbomou merges with the (Click link for more info and facts about Uele River) Uele River to form the (Click link for more info and facts about Ubangi River) Ubangi River.
The Ubangi, a (A branch that flows into the main stream) tributary of the (A republic in central Africa; achieved independence from Belgium in 1960) Congo, also serves as part of the border between the CAR and the DRC.

Recio said MSF had been supporting the activities of the national programme in Haut Mbomou, which has had the highest prevalence rate of 1.8 percent since 2001.
MSF recently completed trypanosomiasis screening in the town of Zemio in Haut Mbomou, where 30,000 people or 85 percent of the total population were screened and 0.93 percent found to be affected.
In CAR, the zones affected by trypanosomiasis include the province of Haut Mbomou, Ouham, Sangha Mbaere and Lobaye, where the disease is breaking out again after 50 years.

Dr Eugene Kpizingui, an epidemiologist and UNICEF health and nutrition project officer, said that the eastern provinces of Mbomou, Haut Mbomou, Haute Kotto and Vakaga were endemic zones, mostly because local populations did not have access to clean drinking water.
He said the region was close to neighbouring Sudan, a highly endemic zone.
