The Daily broke a big story last year that captured the imagination of the national media: the decision of a handful of senators to reject Royal Bank president John Cleghorn as a proposed honorary degree recipient.
For their part, Daily editors say the story raised legitimate questions about the honorary degrees process and who should be entitled to them.
Student journalists, Levitz adds, are paid for their free labour (some editors earn a modest stipend) in the sort of marketable skills that will give them an edge in the job market: a knack for efficient time management, a flair for writing and the ability to deliver on deadline.

Mautbur would not give details about the content or timing of the complaint, which she said were still being worked out, but MSA president Nafay Choudhury said that it could be filed as early as next week or as late as mid-January.
He explained that the potential delay was due to concerns that the Federal non-confidence vote would shift media attention away from the complaint, and that the close of the semester would divert student attention as well.
Choudhury insisted that the human rights complaint is a measure of last resort, and is not an attempt to defame McGill.

But McGill's conservatives had neither the energy nor the attention span to put out a newspaper themselves and so its corpse was taken over by the Maoists who felt that publishing articles by a reactionary in his forties (like me) would not be responsible journalism.
In the fall of 1955, when I was a senior in mathematics at McGill University I decided to join the staff of the student newspaper, the McGill Daily, for a little intellectual fun.
I deliberately chose to violate all the grammar rules that I knew, and much to my horror found that the student copy editor at the McGill Daily was so shaken that he didn't dare make any corrections, and so the article was printed with all my deliberate irreverence plus a lot of ungrammatical typos.

There is a reason that a big company like Minolta can continue to be successful and have goals to “maintain the highest quality” around, and that is by being disrespectful towards its employees, and firing them en masse when there is any intention by employees to voice concerns about management abuse.
Minolta fired a staff with experience and a commitment to service and absorbed the costs of training new staff because it would have been too costly to resolve the repeated complaints from employees.
