Western People - 2005/03/16: McHale Park future lies in County Board’s hands
In return, the County board have secured a 50 year lease on McHale Park which now allows them to pursue necessary development work of their own, including floodlighting and the possible construction of a new 12,000 seater stand to replace the current structure.
An application for funding towards the installation of floodlights at McHale Park has already been made and the Mayo county board await to find out whether their bid will be successful over counter bids thought to have been made by Hyde Park in Roscommon and Pearse Stadium in Salthill.
The addition of lights to McHale Park would open up the possibility of playing inter-county and club games at night although the resurfacing of the pitch would be likely if it meant the hosting of national league matches during the winter months.
