Created and Exec Produced by Get Smart's Leonard Stern, McMillan and Wife was one of several shows (along with McCloud, Columbo and sometimes others) that were part of a rotating selection of 90- or 120-minute programs that shared a timeslot under the group name "The NBC Sunday Mystery Movie".
McMillan and Wife starred Rock Hudson and Susan St. James in the title roles, and featured a memorable performance by Nancy Walker as their housekeeper, Mildred, plus appearances by Mildred's sister, Agatha, played by Martha Raye.

Though the McMillans are the ultimate couple...nice house, nice clothes, and a high profile position, it never ceased to amaze me that everyone he knew, she knew, or they both knew for thirty years turned out to be a thief, kidnapper, extortionist or murderer.
This show jumped when McMillan is kidnapped to prevent him from testifying and his evil twin (Hudson with his hair slicked back and wearing blue contacts), takes over for the commish and manages to fool everyone except Sally.
McMillan and Wife was a fun show and I still enjoy watching the reruns.

They were the happening Super70s answer to Nick and Nora Charles from the Thin Man movies, and when McMillan and Wife premiered as part of the "NBC Mystery Movie" lineup (in three-way rotation with McCloud and Columbo) on September 17, 1971, they were an instant hit with both critics and viewers.
Schuck provided additional comic relief while Nancy Walker, as the McMillans' nosy maid Mildred, made brief but memorable appearances before her role was expanded in subsequent seasons.
The first regular series episode "Murder by the Barrel" (9/29/71) is indicative of the series' entertainment value, and "Death is a Seven Point Favorite" (12/8/71) was a season highlight, with '70s stalwart Don Stroud as a pro football quarterback targeted for murder in a bookie scheme gone awry.
