Macksesio Raphael from Mchinji retired in round three against KIS’s James Ngwale while Golden Limani (LCC) won on points against Lajon Chikayela (KIS) in the most exciting bout.
As the boxers slugged it out in the ring, darts teams from Mchinji and Chipata were sorting it out at the same Motel.

Looking at how women’s groups in Mchinji district identified and prioritised maternal health problems, it found that the groups have a developed awareness of maternal health problems and are motivated to address them.
Surveys have indicated that individual women in Malawi have a poor awareness of such issues, so the report’s authors conclude that community groups such as women’s groups may help to improve indices such as maternal mortality by drawing on a collective ability to solve problems.
The leading maternal health problems identified among a population of 3171 women across 172 women’s groups in Mchinji district were anaemia (present in 87 per cent of the groups), malaria (80 per cent), retained placenta (77 per cent) and obstructed labour (76 per cent).

Police in Mchinji last week arrested a 28-year-old man for allegedly cutting off his wife’s private parts.
Mchinji Police public relations officer Felix Chisakasa alleged in an interview yesterday that on February 1 at about 4 am, Weluzani Simisi pulled and cut off the wife’s private parts when they were about to have sex.
Chisakasa said police investigations revealed that prior to the incident, Simisi was asking his wife for part of her private parts to mix with some traditional medicine and come up with charms to help him get rich but that the wife was refusing.

Lilongwe Police public relations officer Ramsy Mushani confirmed the arrests and said the suspects were intercepted at Chitedze along the Lilongwe-Mchinji Road.
Mushani said Charles Masache (29), from Nkudzikuzi Village, TA Kabudula in Lilongwe, allegedly stole the cows at Tsekwe Village, TA Dambe in Mchinji and hired a car and five people to help him carry the loot to a company in Lilongwe for sale.

Along with other men and women from a group of villages in western Malawi, Victoria makes the uphill trek to patrol the wooded banks of a mountain reservoir and protect the trees from illegal loggers.
Many of the trees growing along the waterline were planted by Victoria and other members of a committee charged with protecting the water supply for some 10,000 people in a remote district of Mchinji.
In Mchinji, where Victoria and her fellow committee members decided for themselves to undertake the 24-kilometer hikes into the mountains to maintain the reservoir and guard its trees, it appears to be working.

Several local and foreign journalists who have been to Banda's Mchinji home, about 120 km west of the capital Lilongwe, said Sunday that some people have paid as much as 100 U.S. dollars just to talk to the father.
A local journalist in company of foreign pressmen from the United Kingdom confirmed that Banda demanded money and was paid about 15,000 kwacha (over 100 dollars) for an interview.
"What he and his advisors are saying is that Banda is being bothered by many journalists who have been flocking to his home in Mchinji from all over the world to interview him on Madonna's adoption of his son," said the source.
