The Messerschmitt BF109, or as it is sometimes known the Me109, has been the subject of modellers for a long time and many excellent kits can be found representing this aircraft.
In this review, I will refer to the model as the Me109, as that is what it has been designated by the manufacturers.
The MesserschmittMe109 has just recently arrived on our shores so I was pleased to have the opportunity to carry out the review, as well as to have something a little different to fly on the slopes.
The Me109 flies much like its predecessor, the Model Tech P51 Mustang, but to my eye looks a little more appealing.
The Me109 would pose no difficulties to anyone who has flown aileron models and it flew hands off into the lift for half a minute of so.
A little care should be taken when landing as this is a low wing model and the built up balsa wing will not take the knocks that a foam core wing would absorb.
P/O Merrick crashed at Fyfield and was taken to hospital at Ongar slightly wounded.
He then attacked another Me109, set the cockpit on fire, finally the whole fuselage was in flames and it was seen to crash into the sea 1 mile off Folkestone by Sgt Parsons.
Sgt Baker attacked a Me109 at 15,000 ft and it went into a steep dive towards the sea, smoking heavily, out of control.
suddenly a Me109 loomes about as large as a barn door right in front of me! And he fires his guns at me, and he rolls to the right, in a Lufberry circle.
At this time I cannot get on the transmitter and talk, everyone else in the squadron is yelling and talking, and there's nothing but yelling, screaming, and incoherent interference as everyone presses their mike buttons at the same time.
Now the advantage of the P-51 is really apparent, as in a dive I am catching up to the Me109 faster than a runaway freight train.
He will not disobey an order but would rather sit at the edge of the combat and fire into the crowd then to mix it up with any heroes.
ME109 also has a poor sense of humor but will always be telling jokes, most of them not funny, and will laugh out loud at all of them.
He will also repeat jokes three or four times if no one laughed the first time, thinking that the only reason no one laughed was because they didn't hear it the first time.
Meanwhile, the remaining Ju87's bombed Ventnor radar station and were intercepted by Spitfires of No: 152 Squadron as the Me109 escort engaged the battle.
As the Ju88's bombed the airfield without interception, at Gosport, the Ju87's attacked the radar station at Poling and airfields at Ford and Thorney Island.
The Ju87's were not so fortunate, as Hurricanes of No: 43 and 601 Squadrons and Spitfires of No: 152 and 602 Squadrons attacked the bombers during their dives while the Spitfires of No: 234 Squadron engaged the Me109 escorts.
Spitfires and Me109s were so evenly matched at this early point in the war that the outcome of such contests were usually decided by the skill of the competing pilots.
Crossing the Channel from their bases in Northern France, they were at the limits of their range and often only had ten minutes of fuel available for actual combat.
Pilots often found that in the right hands the Spitfire and Me109 fighters were equally matched with each aircraft having certain advantages over the other.
A moment after his 27th victory - the fourth in a day, the engine of Kurt's Me109 was completely destroyed by Russian gunfire, and burst into flames.
A classic head to head combat between Spitfire and Me109 fought over the south coast of England on 25th August 1940.
The CO downed a Me110 by blowing off its tail unit before becoming embroiled in a one on one dogfight with a Me109 - Nick's painting captures the action - the CO despatching the enemy aircraft to notch up his second victory of the day.
I have built a 1/4 scale Me109, known as the "Frankenschmidt" here on RCU, from a batch of different parts.
The fuse/rudder is from American Eagle, the wing is from 65 percent enlarged Claude Baskin plans, to give you a semi-symmetrical wing.
If you would like pics of my finished project, feel free to contact me. The plane flies a bit more scale than the Meister, which tends to fly tail high in stock build, with the flat bottom wing (you can correct that by adjusting the wing and/or tail incidence).
This yellow nosed Me109 attacked again and again, always from the front, targeting the pilots area every time before he went for another fort.
This hotshot Me109 attacks two more times before the top gunners zaps him, his chute opened, yellow colour yeah.We shot through by those trigger happy bums from the 403rd, tell em to watch it will ya.
The flak was not so bad, no problems, but we got some fighters on us over Bremen, the navigator dinks one and SW gunner tears the tail off a ME109.We hit the target good and swept back towards the north..
They don't have to be, by any means, I just said I agree with one small point that guy made, whoever he is. I, for one, like to see objective data on a product, like HP, torque, and 0-60.
Maybe that is over-stating it a tad, but I bet you they get excited about the fact that the interiors match the shirt they just bought at Banana Republic.

I cut a large hatch in the top for battery access.

All right, but apart from the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, a fresh water system, and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us?
