Calgary Meals on Wheels - About Calgary Meals on Wheels Calgary Meals on Wheels is a non-profit charitable organization which promotes health and supports independence by preparing and delivering nutritious affordable meals to Calgarians in need of our service – seniors, convalescents (short and long term) and people with disabilities. This organization also provides specially prepared meals for the Chinese community, bagged lunches for the working homeless and a ‘Duck Soup’ program for children in high risk elementary schools, in addition to other means of supporting our community. In response to a plea from the Hospital Chaplaincy Committee of the Calgary Presbytery of the United Church in 1965, a study was undertaken by the Presbyterian United Church Women into the needs of the elderly living alone and those being discharged from hospitals with no help available during their convalescence. www.mealsonwheels.com   (486 words)
