Technically, Mean Streets was very innovative game for its time, featuring 256 color VGA graphics, digitized PC speaker sounds, and even a well-coded flight simulator based on the engine used in Echelon.
Mean Streets was one of the first adventure games to truly take advantage of the full 256-color VGA palette, and the results are impressive even though most background shots are grainy and characters are poorly animated (Tex walks like a pair of wooden chopsticks).
Besides this mini-flight sim portion, Mean Streets also contains a simple shoot-'em-up arcade in which you must advance along a long corridor and shoot down the thugs who try to stop you.

 Mean Streets Summary
Mean Streets (1973) is an early Martin Scorsese film starring Harvey Keitel and Robert De Niro.
[Mean Streets is certainly] a 'little' New York film …, with no stars and not much variety or glamour in the settings—in some respects the movie is the culmination of the lonely-streets-and-sullen-bedrooms style of student films produced in the last decade….
But emotionally, Mean Streets is grandiose and amazingly intense—'operatic' … in the manner of mid-Visconti, yet peculiarly American in its speed, energy, obscenity and humour.

In Mean Streets, we analyzed the failures of this system, taking a close look at pedestrian fatalities, and spending on our streets, roads and highways -- the billions of dollars spent each year that frequently makes the roads less safe for pedestrians.
The problem is not that pedestrians are walking in the wrong places, but that our local streets are becoming speedways -- designed to accommodate more cars passing through, not the people who live, walk, and play in their communities.
This does not always mean, however, that cities like New York are the most dangerous places to walk relative to the number of people walking.
