A mebibit (a contraction of mega binary binary digit) is a unit of information or computer storage, abbreviated Mibit or sometimes Mib.
This unit is most useful for measuring RAM and ROM chip capacity.
The mebibit is closely related to the megabit, which equals to 10

Mbit Information - Online Prescription Medication Directory
In the 16-bit games console era, the 'megabit' (Mbit) became a commonly-used measure of the size (data storage capacity) of games cartridges.
This “megabit” actually equals to one mebibit which symbol is “Mibit”.
The vast majority of SNES / Megadrive (Genesis) games were produced on standard 8 Mibit cartridges, although 4 Mibit cartridges were not uncommon and, later in the life of these consoles, graphically-intensive titles would appear on 12, 16, even 32 Mibit cartridges.

Megabit per second   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-29)
One megabit per second should not be confused with one mebibit per second:
However, the mebibit per second is almost never used, and there is no ambiguity in telecommunications speed as a result (see Binary prefix for the corresponding ambiguous definition when measuring computer storage).
This is because the mebibit has no significance in raw bit rate terms — where storage size is constrained by the binary number system, no such limitation exists when sending electrical pulses or flashes of light.

A mebibit per second (Mibit/s) is a unit of data transfer rate equal to 1,024 kibibits per second or 1,048,576 bits per second.
Another unit of data transmission is the mebibyte per second (MiB/s or Mibyte/s) and is eight times a mebibit per second:

There is also the Mib and the MiB which is Mebibit and Mebibyte which uses bytes of 1000 as opposed to the usual 1024.
Hard drives often use this so an 80GB hard drive is really an 80GiB hard drive with 80'000'000'000 bytes instead of the 85'899'345'920 bytes you would expect which is why onnce you plonk you 80GB in you might be surprised to find it only comes up as 75.5GB
Well byte is 8 bit, its not the point i was asking about the defference in performance and thanks so much GiPWeb your infromation is useful for me.

If not, then you should review your SI Prefixes and your common sense.
He's wrongly talking about millibit here, but most likely he either means 100 Mb (100 megabit or 100000000 bits), or 100 Mib (100 mebibit or 104857600 bits).
My own internet here is 10Mbit/s, but shared between some 150 people (it works surprisingly well though, I guess because not all 150 are downloading things at the same time).
