The Mechanised Infantry Regiment is the newest regiment of the Indian Army, formed on the basis of lessons learned in the 1965 India-Pakistan War.

The mutineer regiments were officially disbanded, and the remaining Bengal loyal units and new irregular units were all renumbered.
New infantry regiments, unlike those of the 1922 reorganisation, were unnumbered, and the old regiments dropped their numbers in 1945 (except for the Punjab regiments since there were several whose titles would be identical without the numbers).
Of the new regiments, the Sikh Light Infantry was considered to be a revival of the Sikh Pioneers disbanded in 1933, and it took precedence within the infantry accordingly.

They are often supported by Mechanised Infantry platoons and Recon squadrons when fielded as a full company, but occasionally they are dispersed amongst Infantry Regiments and Mechanised Regiments to provide armoured support.
The Kathei 1st Infantry Regiment was part of those reinforcements, and the 12th Kathei Infantry Company is assigned to the Newgate Cathedral Parish (a district of six cities on the main southern continent) where they coordinate their efforts with the local Barons.
Ordnance or field guns of any kind, and missiles especially (including simple infantry fire support) are similarly frowned upon as slightly dishonourable but are still sometimes used (also physical projectiles tend to be less accurate over long range due to the high wind, and the moving parts tend to rust in the rain).

Usually commanded by a General, a Brigade will be formed of 3 Infantry Regiments and their associated Armour and Artilley units, consisting of 390 Troopers.
A Regiment will also have attached a number of Heavy Cavalry, Armour and Artillery units allowing it to operate independently of the main Brigade with full effectiveness.

Announced on 24 November 2005 by the MOD, The Rifles will be formed by the amalgamation of the Light Infantry and the Royal Green Jackets, along with the Devonshire and Dorset Light Infantry and the Royal Gloucestershire, Berkshire and Wiltshire Light Infantry which will merge into a single battalion.
The new regiment's five battalions will be given fixed roles - the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Battalions will be roled as light infantry, while the 5th Battalion will remain as armoured/mechanised infantry.
