Vorpommern - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
At the end of the Second World War in 1945 Vorpommern became as only part of the former Pomerania part of the East German state Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, later of the Bezirk Rostock and the Bezirk Neubrandenburg in the GDR.
Vorpommern was in the middle ages populated by the Slavic Obodrits people, who were related to the Pomeranians.
Vorpommern (Polish: Pomorze Przednie) - in English sometimes also called West, Upper, or Hither Pomerania - is a region of Pomerania west of the River Oder in north-eastern Germany, including the island of Rügen but excluding the city of Szczecin (former Stettin).

Mecklenburg, to the west of Vorpommern, became a duchy in 1348 but was divided from the 17th century until 1934.
Western Pomerania (Vorpommern) was under Swedish control from the Peace of Westphalia in 1648 until its annexation to Prussia in 1720 and 1815.
They were briefly combined with Vorpommern in 1947–1952 and have been part of the present state since German reunification in 1990.

 Historical Flags (Mecklenburg, Germany)
The traditional flag of Mecklenburg was the blue-yellow-red one, used in the past by both entities, and kept in use by both after 1918 (approved 24th May 1923 for Mecklenburg-Strelitz).
Mecklenburg-Schwerin was a coastal province and, as in the past, a civil ensign was adopted with the colours blue-white-red, which were the colours of Rostock — thus with a different origin with respect to the colours of the State flag.
So the flag for both Mecklenburgs was the blue-yellow-red (and it always had been so), while Mecklenburg-Schwerin had also a blue-white-red civil ensign which is the flag usually reproduced on old charts and books dealing with maritime flags.

 Regional Flags (Mecklenburg-West Pomerania, Germany)
The traditional colours of Mecklenburg may be used in the part of Mecklenburg-West Pomerania that was formerly part of Mecklenburg, however the use of a flag with the coat-of-arms seems to me not appropriate.
The flags of Mecklenburg (blue on yellow on red) and (West) Pomerania (blue on white) can still be used and must appear beside the Land flag when this one is used on public buildings.
According to law, the traditional flags of Mecklenburg or Pomerania can be used in those parts of the Land that had belonged to these entities in former times.

H-Net Review: Donna Harsch on Die Geschichte der SPD in Mecklenburg und Vorpommern
The rebirth of the Mecklenburg SPD was robust and by late-1945 its membership had swelled beyond the numbers of the Weimar years.
Of the Mecklenburg SPD's stand on these questions, we learn only that the majority followed the national party's endorsement of war credits, although a Mecklenburg Reichstag member opposed the war.
This book traces the origins and evolution of the German Social Democratic party (SPD) in the northern provinces/state of Mecklenburg and West Pomerania from the mid-nineteenth century through the 1990s.
