The Meconopsis Group was founded in 1998 to try to resolve the confusion.
The Meconopsis Group is affiliated to the Scottish Rock Garden Club and it enjoys the active support of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh.
For Meconopsis enthusiasts, the various forms of big perennial blue poppies are usually readily enough recognised when seen growing in the garden.

Meconopsis betonicifolia has been in cultivation ever since and if treated correctly will establish itself as a perennial plant for moist, semi-woodland conditions with an acid soil.
There are fine plantings of Meconopsis in the Botanic garden - not just the blue perennials - but the monocarpic species too.
There is a great deal of confusion among growers of the blue flowered perennial meconopsis.
