Medal of Honor - Rising Sun - MegaGames previews
When the original version of Medal of Honor was announced many claimed that there was no way of implementing the novel and ambitious plans while producing a worthwhile game.
Medal of Honor Rising Sun will be available for the PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system, the Nintendo GameCube and the Xbox video game system from Microsoft in the fall of 2003, with a PC version planned for some time in 2004.
As with the original Medal of Honor, the producers sought council from numerous outside sources to make certain the game is as historically authentic and realistic as possible.

The Army Medal of Honor was first awarded during the American Civil War and was last officially awarded on September 23, 2005 to Corporal Tibor Rubin, a concentration camp survivor during the Second World War, for actions that occurred during the Korean War in 1950-1953.
Many Medals of Honor awarded in the 19th century were associated with saving the flag, not just for patriotic reasons, but because the flag was a primary means of battlefield communication.
Before the posthumous awarding of the Medal of Honor in 2005 to Paul R. Smith, the medal was last awarded during the Battle of Mogadishu in 1993, when MSG Gary Gordon and SFC Randy Shughart lost their lives defending downed Black Hawk helicopter pilot CWO Michael Durant.

Medal of Honor (MOH) is the name of a series of first-person shooter games set in World War II.
The first game was developed by DreamWorks Interactive (currently known as EA Los Angeles) and published by Electronic Arts in 1999 for the PlayStation game console.
The games are characterized by linear gameplay through recognizable WWII-era areas of conflict, which is sometimes presented in a cinematic tone (e.g., inspiration from modern films like Saving Private Ryan and Enemy at the Gates and the television miniseries Band of Brothers is obvious, since the game was 'created' by Steven Spielberg).

The Medal of Honor is the highest military decoration in the United States of America.
During and after the 20th century, the medal has been awarded for extreme bravery above and beyond the call of duty, where a person consistently and persistently has put his comrades safety foremost to the utter disregard of his own life.
The medal consists of a gold star surrounded by a wreath, topped by an eagle on a bar inscribed with the word "Valor." The medal is attached to a thick blue ribbon, which is then worn around the neck.

This gives the game a bit of a segmented feel, but it succeeds well due to the smooth flow of each particular mission into the next, and the scripted events that help the individual missions move along.
Medal of Honor pulls everything it can out of the Quake III engine, and while there are occasionally a few flat textures — most notably tree branches that stick out like they were cut from cardboard — the game comes off looking beautiful, or at least as beautiful as a blasted-out WWII palette can be.
Medal of Honor does an excellent job with a tricky subject, and manages to capture the atmosphere of the Second World War without smothering the gameplay with its gravity.

The game itself takes up an amazing amount of space on your hard drive (1.2 GB for basic installation), but once you understand the scope of the game, you will appreciate the level of detail that was put into the game.
For example, the most difficult mission of the game has Powell and a small company of mechanics playing a game of cat-and-mouse with German snipers through the decimated streets of a bombed-out village, while on their way to sabotage a tank under repairs.
That is about the extent of the objectionable content of the game; there is a small amount of profanity while the soldiers are on Omaha beach (and I mean SMALL--three or four mild expletives), but otherwise, the violence is the only thing to worry about in regards to who to buy the game for.

Good things about this game: The weapons are very realistic, the Germans talk a lot and kick grenades away from themselves after you throw them, and the missions are different enough to keep the interest level of the player high.

Just watching can be quite something, but as ever with Medal of Honor games, you aren't lucky enough to be just a spectator; you have an important role to play.
In a none too drastic change to the series, Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault as the name suggests, transfers itself from the done-to-death European battlefields and adopts the island to island fighting of the Southern Pacific, against the full force of the Japanese empire.
The problem with Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault is that it seems to be lacking something; that spark that changes it from a visual spectacle to a classic.
