On that occasion he wore the guise of a monk in order to gain the trust of the 11th-century locals, hence the name by which is most often referred to.

The Monk eventually captures the Doctor to prevent him interfering with his plans, which, as Steven and Vicki discover while rescuing the Doctor, involves altering history- specifically, changing the outcome of the Battle of Hastings by destroying a fleet that weakened Harold's army before the Battle.
To the Monk's shock, the Doctor reveals that the knife with which Ace stabbed him was a pantomime dagger she'd taken from the TARDIS' theatrical supplies; she never intended to betray the Doctor at all.
The Monk, stunned, realized that Ace never intended to travel with him; when she realized that Artemis was blocking his attempts to hypnotize her, she decided to string him along until she could find a way to stop him.

They should meddle in any peer review where the "peers" have connections to the pharmaceutical industry since this "research" paid for by the taxpayer is designed solely to enhance their profits rather than for the benefit of science or mankind.
They should meddle in peer review where the peers are prepared to support the unscientific conclusions of some of these studies and the flawed methodology of the research, such as in attention deficit hyperactivity disorder studies.
Until NIMH and others recognize the fallacy of the "fluffy" studies and get down to the serious study of brain disease, such "research" will continue to be a joke to people who have a serious interest in how our minds work and process information.

The acting in the Gunfighters is very poor (except for the regulars), unlike in the other two, in which the acting is excellent, Peter Butterworth, later of 'Carry On' fame the stand out as the Meddling Monk.
