Medical journal - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A medical journal is a scientific journal devoted to the field of medicine.
Medical journals commonly arose as the journal of societies, such as the precursors of the British Medical Association, and would originally be collections of letters sent to the society by distant members, with an account of the proceedings of the society's recent meetings distributed to various members and the library.
In the closing years of the 20th century most medical journals had a Web presence, the BMJ notably so, thus increasing their accessibility to and input from a wide variety of people and places, and there continues a general move from print as a primary medium to the electronic ones, with participation in Bio-Med Central.

Former Medical Journal Editor Outlines Conflicts of Interest
Whenever a large trial is published in a high-profile journal, it has that journal's implicit stamp of approval and may well receive global media coverage thanks to drug company-financed PR.
What's more, medical journals allow trial results to be published in relative risk reduction terms, which make the drug appear more effective than it truly is. A classic example: The top-selling cholesterol-lowering drugs called statins will reduce the risk of having a heart attack by 25%.
It remains to be seen whether all medical journals will follow the lead of the 11 that called for the registration of all trials.

The changed layout, which is notable by the prominence of a "Medical Ethics and Human Rights" section, is complemented by a section entitled Medical Science, Professional Practice and Education.

 Medical Journal Editors Condemn Ghostwriting
Ghostwriting may be okay for tell-all celebrity books but the editors of a peer-reviewed medical journal draw the line when the veiled author is paid by a pharmaceutical company with a financial interest in an article's topic.
“Advancements in science, clinical care and medical education require a discourse among and between basic and clinical scientists, clinicians and medical educators,” wrote the authors of the editorial, Dr. Tierney and co-editor Martha Gerrity, M.D., Ph.D., associate professor of medicine at the Oregon Health and Sciences University.
To be most effective in advancing medical science, care and education, published articles must have relevant content that pushes back the interface between what is known and what is yet to be discovered.
