 NX class starship
In the Star Trek fictional universe, the NX class was a variety of starship produced by Earth Starfleet prior to the United Federation of Planets.
The pathfinder of the class, the starship Enterprise (NX-01), was launched on April 16, 2151.
The NX-01 is decommissioned that year, but the fate of the other NX class ships is not revealed; in addition, it is not revealed whether the new Warp 7 vessels also carry NX designations (it is possible that the new ships are the oft-mentioned Daedalus class starship, which was in use around that time).

The USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-D), a Galaxy class starship.
The Galaxy class of starships were the largest and most powerful in Starfleet during the 2360s and early 2370s, after which point they were succeeded by the slightly smaller Sovereign class in sheer power.
The Galaxy class was sometimes seen by those of a more military background as devoting too much space and energy to creature comforts and family support, such as holodecks, schools, gymnasiums, amphitheaters, and a bar, rather than mission equipment.

ipedia.com: Nebula class starship Article   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-31)
The Nebula class design is related to the Galaxy class starship, having a similar engineering hull, a similar primary hull and nacelles.
The Nebula class differs in the direct integration of the saucer section with the secondary hull, the downward curve of the engine pylons, the attachment of those connections farther fore and higher up on the secondary hull, and the short upward-running pylon supporting a changeable module at the aft end of the engineering hull.
The Nebula class was probably first put into service during the 2350s in response to the growing tensions with the Cardassians as well as a replacement for older Federation starship designs.

USS Enterprise (CVN-65) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Enterprise was intended to be the first of a class of six, but construction costs ballooned and the remaining vessels were never laid down resulting in her being the only ship of her class.
Partially due to her association with her famous World War II forebear and partially due to the association of her name with the starship in the television series Star Trek, U.S.S. Enterprise is quite possibly the most famous vessel in the entire United States Navy.
Enterprise was the first nuclear powered aircraft carrier and the rumors from her crew in the 80s was that they underestimated the power from the two reactors per propulsion shaft giving her a higher speed than later carriers.

Starship class   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-31)
A starship class is the basic design of a starship.
In most science fiction universes a ship's class will generally be after its first ship known as the leader or pathfinder.
Classes of starships like their terrestrial counterpart used to save effort and money - considerably easier and cheaper to build multiple to the same set of plans than develop a new unique plan for every starship.

 Definition of Constitution class starship
Ships of this class were multi-role, but generally used for exploration and diplomacy; however, they were quite capable in combat against ships of most enemy powers of their time, with an armament consisting of six photon torpedo launchers (four fore, two aft) and three dual-turret phaser banks.
It is unknown if the refitted Constitution class is still in service in the 2370s; however, it is likely, considering the continued active service of the Excelsior and Miranda classes, both from the same era.
There is a variant of the class known to be in use, that of a saucer with a normally attached neck from the bottom of which two nacelles are supported by pylons.

The design of the New Orleans class mostly follows conventional Federation starship design with a saucer-shaped primary hull attached to a roughly cylindrical engineering section by a short, thick neck and with two warp engines attached to the dorsal side of the secondary hull by long, backward-angled, upward-curving pylons.
The most unusual features of ships of this class are the three forward-facing weapons pods, two mounted on top of the saucer and the other connected to the ventral engineering hull by a short pylon.

On top of the numerous canon ship classes that we know of there are many additional ones that have had passing acknowledgements and references, but of which little is known about.
Physical models of some of these other obscure classes do exist, a number were created for the Wolf 359 graveyard scene, but with the majority we basically have to embellish what information we do have on various class ambiguities, and muddle through best we can until we arrive at sensible suppositions.
In the manifests of these ancillary classes are details outlining class prototypes, number of vessels constructed, and a few additional ship names from that class, and the conjectured class specs and statistics.
