	Međimurje county - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		In the Upper Medjimurje, in the west, the Mura changes its course, moving it in terms of geology slowly toward the north.
		Medjimurje is a strong trade and communication hub connecting central Europe with Varaždin, Zagreb, and Karlovac as well as the port of Rijeka, (rijeka=river in Croatian), on the shores of the Adriatic sea, mainly in Kvarner bay.
		In 1918 Medjimurje was occupied by Serb troops and in 1920 became part of the newly created Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovens (later Yugoslavia).

	The CHC Representatives Visit to the Roma Settlements in the County of Medjimurje
		This County was chosen as the first one in the series of the counties which are to be visited in the future (the visit is planned for all the counties throughout the entire Republic of Croatia) because of the discriminatory behaviour of the local authorities from Medjimurje towards the Roma people living in the region.
		Specifically, there are two main reasons why we have demanded that the representative of the County Council see us, and these were: the death of the Roma baby in the settlement Trnovec and the existence of 14 schools in the region which carry out segregation of the Roma children.
		The organisation of Roma people from Medjimurje with the help of the Croatian Helsinki Committee organised a small program and a concert of the Roma music at the premises of the Association of the Independent Trade Unions of Croatia in Čakovec in which a member of the CHC, Dushako Delmatho took part.

		Instead of prompting appropriate government action to remedy the situation, her work has placed her under increasing pressure, especially in recent months, from both the Medjimurje County local government/parliament and other "concerned" individuals/groups, which have suggested that her activities are damaging to the "country's reputation abroad" and even requested her removal from office.
		Their placement in such schools is a result of racial discrimination by officials at the schools concerned, expressing the dominating and pervasive anti-Romani sentiment of the local non-Romani community.
		In addition, in at least one of the schools in Medjimurje County, more than 88% of all Romani children in the school are victims of racial segregation.

		The parents weren’t satisfied with the decisions of the Municipal and District Courts, so they started a procedure for review of constitutionality in front of the Constitutional Court.
		Tin Gazivoda, member of the Executive Board of HHO, informed us that, if all the segregated classes for the Roma children in Medjimurje were terminated in time, the lawsuits will be revoked.

		Small Medjimurje is the name of a joint Croatian-Slovene-Hungarian project on tourism development and environment protection by the banks of the Mura River.
		The meeting in Cakovec focused on the cooperation of the Medjimurje and Hungarian counties Zala and the Slovene Prekomurje.
		Apart from environment protection the project also envisages the development of the data exchange system and the organizing of joint sports, recreation and gastronomic events.

		In particular, the letter focuses on disturbing developments at the primary school in Kursanec, Medjimurje County, where first grade Romani pupils appear to have been racially segregated.
