The Hydro Majestic Hotel, the gothic tourist pile at Medlow Bath, was the centre of a major bushfire emergency yesterday as crews battled to prevent central Blue Mountains towns from being ringed by flames.
High winds on Thursday afternoon saw it spread more than 13 kilometres in less than six hours, crossing the Great Western Highway at Medlow Bath and threatening homes in North Katoomba and North Wentworth Falls.
High winds caused several breakouts on Saturday night and yesterday before what one fireman described as the "big bust" that saw the Hydro Majestic and Medlow Bath under threat about 3.30pm.

We found a "walkers only" sign at the end of Pulpit Hill Rd but there is only an "out and back" walk via a series of unmapped fire trails and tracks.
If you walk along the side of the highway from Pulpit Hill, keeping any guardrail between you and the traffic, you will eventually get to Medlow Bath, although it is not particularly pleasant going.
