Meet the Fockers (2004)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-26)
Meet The Fockers (The sequel to the successful comedy, Meet The Parents) is about male nurse Gaylord Focker (Ben Stiller) and his fiancée Pam Byrnes (Teri Polo).
This should be expected from many sequels, and yet the thing that makes Meet The Fockers different from other sequels to comedies is that it may use the same jokes, but it keeps the jokes fresh and they are always different enough from the first time the joke was used to still be funny.
All in all Meet The Fockers is a good film and is definitely worthy of the $8.50 (or whatever) that you would have to spend.

It works to a degree in 'Meet the Parents' because De Niro keeps things relatively serious there (and it worked much better in 'Midnight Run' for the same reason), but here De Niro tries to be whacky and the results are less than hilarious.
The second film, 'Meet the Fockers', muddies up the dynamic a bit by introducing more characters and stars (Barbra Streisand and Dustin Hoffman) and makes Jack less of an opposing force and more a fish out of water, which unfortunately dilutes the central premise a bit.
'Meet the Fockers' is enterning enough but De Niro isn't used as well by the script and director.

The thing that gave Meet the Parents the ability to be funny was the semblance of heart and truth that director Jay Roach infused in the Ben Stiller character, his relationship with Pam, and the movie grew off of it.
Meet the Parents, for what it's worth, had a considerable amount of charm to keep it fresh, and the result is a nicely made comedy.
Meet the Fockers, however, is just a joke on whoever watches it, and worst of all, it's one the audience has already heard.

Filmtracks: Meet the Fockers (Randy Newman)
Meet the Fockers: (Randy Newman) As an overdue follow-up to the 2000 hit comedy Meet the Parents, Jay Roach's Meet the Fockers extends the characters from the first film into the realm of Greg Focker's (Ben Stiller's) parents.
In a journey down memory lane, though, Meet the Fockers gives Newman the opportunity to slide right back into ever familiar territory, with the filmmakers apparently deciding that a nearly identical effort from Newman's previous entry in the series being the best method of providing music to the sequel.
Released by Varèse Sarabande, the Meet the Fockers album is nearly identical in structure to Dreamworks' album for Meet the Parents, with the Newman songs followed by score and several rock songs appearing at the end.

Movie Review - Meet the Fockers - www.ericdsnider.com - The Official Website of Eric D. Snider
In the grand tradition of movie sequels, "Meet the Fockers" is a little coarser, a little more desperate and a lot less funny than its predecessor.
In the world of the movie, it's only been two years since 2000's "Meet the Parents," which ended with Gaylord "Greg" Focker (Ben Stiller) getting the OK to marry his sweetheart Pam Byrnes (Teri Polo) from her accommodating mother Dina (Blythe Danner) and her strict, ex-CIA father Jack (Robert De Niro).
The Fockers are a touch-feely couple, still quite frisky (she's a sex therapist specializing in senior citizens; he's a happy house husband) and absolute admirers of their mediocre son.

Streisand and Hoffman play the Fockers (pronounced Fawkers), the parents of male nurse Greg Focker (Ben Stiller), who is engaged to Pam Byrnes (Teri Polo).
Streisand, a couples therapist who uses sex as a way to restore intimacy, probes a bit too deeply into the private lives of De Niro and Danner, and the last thing her son wants is his mother meddling with his future in-laws' marriage.

It's a testament to their understanding of comedy that Robert De Niro's Jack Byrnes character is as much the protagonist of Fockers as Ben Stiller's shlubby Gaylord, which gives the story a little more comic elbow room, opening it up for the introduction of Roz and Bernie Focker.

Far more than the 2000 original, which was mostly implicit in its ethnic implications, "Fockers" is explicit about touchy-feely, liberal and liberated Jews trying to mellow out uptight, conservative and repressed WASPs (this is such a shopworn notion by now that a much more novel comedy could be wrung out of the reverse dynamic).
For starters, a hot Latin lady (Alanna Ubach), formerly the Fockers' maid, is presented as the woman to whom the teenage Greg lost his virginity, with a possible illegitimate son the result.
Although potent B.O. for "Fockers" may create corporate desire for a third installment, the extent to which the creative fertility level has dropped between entries one and two provides a significant argument for Roach & Co. to retire the Fockers before it's really too late.
