Meetro's features make it useful for meeting people with similar interests in a given area, as well as bundling multiple messaging protocols into one program.
Meetro's parent company is Meetroduction, based in Palo Alto, California.
The Meetro program is different from other messenger programs as it does not allow "bots" to gain access to the program and infiltrate it with false profiles.

Since then, meetro’s been getting a bit of airtime here and there, not to mention having floortime at ETech.
The location-awareness of it is the only thing that makes meetro even remotely interesting to me. So Vinny, I’ll get it on the d/l and give it a shot.

The key difference with Meetro over other IM clients is that your buddy list is dynamic and location based.
While your core list of buddies will always be available, Meetro can display members that users have any relationship with, weak or strong, though any online community users participate in.

You may remember Meetro as the geographically-based IM client that we wrote about back in December, which, at the time, was just opening up the alpha version of the Mac-compatible client to a larger audience to test.
The Meetro crew was optimistically hoping to release around Macworld time (read: now), but according to this article at Applexnet, it seems that the Mac client will be taking just a teeny bit longer to reach Xanadu-like levels of euphoric perfection.
The Mac alpha is not without bugs, but the Meetro team is very dedicated to listening to user feedback and is constantly on top of things much quicker than I would expect from most other developers.
