Meg was elected in June 2001 as the Labour / Co-operative MP for Sheffield Heeley and is Chair of the Co-operative Group of MPs.
Meg joined the Department for Trade and Industry ministerial team as Deputy Minister for Women and Equality in May 2005 having been Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) to the Minister for Children, Margaret Hodge, and chair of the Women’s Committee of the Parliamentary Labour Party.
Meg was a City Councillor in Nottingham between 1987 and 1991, and before becoming an MP she was the Assistant Director for Children’s Services at the City of York Council.
