Chips which attack deck are more valuable than they might at first seem; destroying your opponent’s chips from his deck can prove useful, but only if you can do so quickly.

MMBCC takes the basic ideas of its parent series -- virtual combat enhanced by battle chips which confer an array of powers upon their bearers -- recycles existing sprites, backgrounds and music, and throws away almost everything that resembles gameplay.
The only element of MMBCC that even resembles genuine interaction is the process of creating a Program Deck, the arrangement of the titular Battle Chips that tells your Navi battling program which skills to use.

If Mega Man Battle Chip Challenge is not the most evilly addictive game I've played in years, I don't know what is. I just got up from a playing session almost five hours long and all I want to do is go back and play some more.
Mega Man Battle Chip Challenge is better at playing itself instead of letting you play it, and when that happens in a video game, the entire point got lost somewhere along the way.
Referring to Mega Man Battle Chip Challenge as a fun and exciting game is about as accurate as calling Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s Gigli the "movie of the year." In terms of Mega Man titles over the years, this one is easily the worst.

The Battle Chip Grand Prix is a series of battles between players and other humans and their Net Navis to determine who the best net battler is. These battles play out as one-on-one contests between Net Navis whose battle chips are arranged by their human operators in program decks.
The chips are arranged in a sideways pyramid: the Net Navi, two battle chips, three battle chips, four battle chips, and then two reserve "Slot In" battle chips.

GAF - Review - Mega Man Battle Chip Challenge (Game Boy Advance)
Yes, it's true that battles play out automatically and it is also true that there's a random element to everything, but you have more than a little control over how your Navi performs in battle.
Typically, the Chips that are selected for use during a round are the ones that are open to damage; when a Chip runs out of HP, it gets deleted from the battle, meaning you can't use that Chip for the remainder of the fight.
This is because most of the Navis (really all of them other than Mega Man, heh) were clearly never intended to use anything other than their own original attacks, and as such don't have animations accomodating much else than, well, those attacks.

The two chips are important as they can mean the battle if you’re not wise in your decision, but at the same time, it emphasizes that your typical chip collection needs to be well rounded as well as the chips selected can lead to huge wins and conversely, huge losses.
In most cases, battles can be won by simply selecting two powerful chips that pray on the all too a-typical weaknesses, both environmental and character specific, inherent to Mega Man enemies.
The graphics of Chip Challenge are about the only thing really on par with the Network games as each character animates well and the world designed by Capcom for these characters is always colorful and full of life.

Mega Man Battle Chip Challenge uses Mega Man Battle Network as a basis for a brand new style of gameplay that takes out the adventuring and real-time battle aspect of the MMBN series and reduces it to a collecting and strategy style game design.
At the beginning of the battle, the computer randomly chooses one battle chip for each of the four turns for each player, and then battle commences.
Unfortunately, beyond the strategy of choosing Battle Chips for each of the slots on the grid, the game's all automatic, so players don't actually take direct control over their Battle Network character at any time during the battle.
