Megaman X: Command Mission (which I'll just refer to as Command Mission from now on) doesn't make having low levels as much of a problem as other RPGs have been known to do, though, and the boss fights aren't nearly as hard as I thought they'd be.
SDA's rule about skipping cutscenes isn't as crushing in Command Mission as it is in some other RPGs, mainly because the plot for this game is just plain AWFUL to the point that you WANT to skip seeing it.
X, who is always available, is incredibly versatile, although I want to say he's a bit weak without his secret armor (I considered collecting it, and even tried in an earlier attempt, but I could never beat the optional boss that gives you the armor in the context of a speedrun).

MMHP: Mega Man X Command Mission
X and Zero, being Maverick Hunters, are sent out to a Force Metal facility one day to do their usual thing—that is, find and destroy a Maverick, this one named Epsilon.
Also, X can get many weapons which hit weaknesses to the various elements, although this is both an advantage and a drawback, since you cannot change weapons in the middle of a battle, so if you go into a battle with an enemy that absorbs the weapon you’ve got equipped, you’re kind of stuck.
X picks up the Supra-Force Metal that Epsilon was using and seems to feel a little bad about it, but Zero tells him that they did the right thing, and Axl chimes in.

IGN: Reader Review of: Mega Man X: Command Mission
Command Mission is a good turn-based RPG, although it could of been better.
For example, Axl can summon a boss or giant enemy from a DNA list, you have to put in a series of button commands to command it before time runs out, while Megaman X can charge his attack by holding in the A button and hit multiple enemies.
For example you might have Megaman X on the right and Zero on the left speaking with each other, if a third character butts in the one not addressed will be removed and replaced with the new character's dialog.

I've always been a fan of the Mega Man X series, and it seems I was one of the few who enjoyed the last installment in the series (for those who have lost count, that'd be Mega Man X7).
The game is broken up into ten chapters, is almost entirely linear, and the battle system uses a mish-mash of features that have all been used in other games.
Yet, the story progresses at a nice clip, the plot isn't all that bad, and compared to the last X game, the voice acting is a gift from the Gods.

Command Mission features a small hub area, from which X and other party members warp to various stages of play.
Stages take the form of multi-level dungeons, and although there are a few twists here and there involving traps and tricks that need to be cleared, these dungeons are pretty much straight forward marches from one area to the next.
X's special cannon attack involves holding down the A button and charging up the weapon; the more you charge it, the more weapon energy the attack takes up.

RPGamer > Review > Mega Man X Command Mission
There was much trepidation when Capcom announced that Command Mission would be a turn-based RPG; after all, series fans were well accustomed to the action-oriented gameplay of the Mega Man X and Battle Network series.
Command Mission is moderately original, with the general setup of battles, as I've said, resembling that of Final Fantasy X.
Since I haven't played a Mega Man X game in a while, though, I couldn't fully appreciate the plot, although hardcore fans of the series will likely find much to celebrate here.

GameCube ::: Advanced Media Network - Zelda, Mario, Metroid, Super Smash Bros, Eternal Darkness, F-Zero, Star Fox, ...
Command Mission consists primarily of two different modes of play: either X is roaming around a 3D environment acquiring items and talking to Reploids or he and his party are engaged in a menu-driven battle against Mavericks.
Controlling X while roaming is simple enough; the control stick moves him, the A button speaks to nearby Reploids, and the B button causes him to dash (thereby smashing open item containers).
For example, X’s primary attack is his conventional X-Buster blaster; his secondary weapons can include swappable weapons such as missiles, energy charges, or status-changing blasts; his special attack is a charged X-Buster shot that can strike multiple foes at once; and his hyper attack form can inflict greater amounts of damage with each blast.
