norvegica is a large aggregating species and is the food of whales, seals, fish, squid, decapods and birds, particularly in coastal regions.
norvegica is sometimes infected with ectoparasites of Thalassomyces fagei (Ellobiopsidae) (Franqueville, 1971; De Bhaldraithe, 1973), but these seem to be absent from specimens from the NE Atlantic and the northern North Sea (Smith, 1981), as well as from Scottish inshore waters (Mauchline and Fisher, 1969).
The occurrence of the ellobiopsid Thalassomyces fagei (Boschma, 1948) parasitic on the euphausiid Meganyctiphanes norvegica (M. Sars, 1856).

It has been commercially harvested since the 1960s and today is the subject of an active fishery by several nations.

We have presented these ditributions for 1995 and 1996 for two species (Meganyctiphanes norvegica and Themisto gaudichaudii) to show how different species can have very different patterns of length frequency distributions.
Meganyctiphanes norvegica shows interannual differences, especially later in year, particularly younger cohort production higher in 1995.
