The band was called the 'Shorter Brothers' Band' because it was fronted by Andy Shorter on stage.
It was the comaraderie of the sidemen that kept this band together for 6 years, throughout the severe economic Depression of the 1930's.
During the later years of the Depression, the band was unable to find work as a unit, and many of the sidemen were forced to freelance, with Sutton himself, often working for other leaders.

The band used a large backdrop showing a big sun and a small earth in the background, not unlike the album cover, though against a fl background instead of a white one.
As on the album and during the previous tour, the band consisted of five people; Yogi Lang on vocals (once again, in a rather mellow mood), Karlheinz Wallner of guitar, Phil Rissettio on drums, Andreas Wernthaler on keyboards and newcomer Stephan Ebner on bass.
Yogi explained that the band could have a very angry side, trying to get the band members to show how angry they could be (without really succeeding; they wouldn't be able to scare a 4 year old kid if they wanted to).

 Solid! -- Rudy Vallee
With his megaphone and nasal voice he will forever be remembered as the archetypal image of the early crooners.
The band was an unusual one, consisting of two violins, two saxophones, and a piano.
From the beginning the main purpose of the band, the Connecticut Yankees, had been to back Vallee's singing, but Vallee himself had a large ego, which often led to resentment from many of the musicians.

Oi! For The Punx :: Oi! Oi!
The band is one of my all time favorites and played great songs like "Death Comes fast" and a multitude of other songs off their "Our rebellion has just begun" CD/LP and some songs that got the crowd really cheering them on on one of their early demo E.P.'s.
This band came on the set and immediatley a mosh pit started and in the front row were shouting along the chorus of songs like: "Just cant live", and "Rock and rot".
The lead vocalist and all the members in the band were very excited to come to Cleveland and were pogoing while stuffing the mic in the face of a player from Chaotic Alliance.

The megaphone became one of his trademarks, and was copied by other vocalists of the day inasmuch as microphones and amplifier systems were not yet well developed.
He remained with the band for about one year during which time he made records and was heard on Radio broadcasts with the band.
He and Vallee formed a band (I think it was called the Connecticut Yankees, but I'm not sure) and Bert got the band an engagement (Jan. 1928) at a small cafe called the Heigh-Ho Club (from whence came Rudy's radio broadcast introduction of "Heigh-Ho everybody, this is Rudy Vallee speaking").

BBC Manchester - Music - The Rain Band at Life Café
Not that the show was a complete failure by any means, but the lack of a warm-up act meant the arrival of the band on stage was a jarring experience, and the room took a while to get into to it.
They may still be in the first tentative moments of their career as far as their sales are concerned, but their sound is of epic proportions, ready to fill venues the size of the Apollo.
It won't be long before they graduate to venues more suited to their huge sound, but until they do, they need to realise a megaphone is not a microphone and it needs to be treated sparingly.

All four members of Megaphone are natural dandies, and therefore they slipped into the band's Vogue-meets-wasted look effortlessly.

And his megaphone, the same one he used for the cover of No Todo lo Que Es Pop Es Bueno ("Not Everything Pop Is Good"), the band's debut, is as important to the band as Michael Jackson's left glove was to him.
That's what we are: a band of provocateurs, always messing with one another, competing to see who brings the best melody.
The band is not sure whether to release a new album before the end of the year or in early '03.

Thanks to their combination of megaphone distorted vocals, angelic la-la-las and a herky jerky pulse, Cage most remind me of a 1987 band called Jackdaw With Crowbar, whose similarly funky avant rock was schizophrenically manic and bizzare.
New drummer Matt Espy, along with singer-songwriter Gregg Spence joined in and the rest is documented here, spending just a Summer to come up with a very tight set of college-rock songs with plenty of strange twists thrown in to keep things fun and on the edge.
Of the four songs, the one that drew me in the most was 'Worst Case Scenario' with it's obscured megaphone singing and sweet la la la chorus as counterpoint to the harsh instrumental work.
