Aurora - a new table-top science fiction role playing game with a free sample   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-09)
The Jeotsu long ago standardized their time measurement around the second (which is conveniently very close to the human-standard second in duration).
Because for most daily activities one second is a very short period, the units of a kilosecond (1,000 seconds) and a megasecond (1,000,000 seconds) are commonly used.
Business contracts and legal documents all use kiloseconds and megaseconds to denote time, as do all scientific documents.

 Time - s (seconds)
MegaSecond is 12 days (closer, 11 days + 14 hours).
If a year is 30 MegaSeconds, then a thousand years is 30 GigaSeconds, a MY is 30 TeraSeconds, a billion
A decade is thus 300 MegaSeconds, and a century 3 GigaSeconds.

40 Ns - The Elder Geek on Windows XP
The prefixes in the top half of the list (except, bizarrely, for the last three of them) are abbreviated as uppercase letters (MHz for megahertz), while the lower half are abbreviated using lowercase letters (mg for milligram).
So Ms is a megasecond, while ms is a millisecond.
You can put those in front of any metric unit of measurement and, somewhat controversially, in front of names for units of computer storage, except that there 10E3 is often, but not always, replaced with 2E10.

 Decimal Time - Metric Time
Metric multiples include the kilosecond and megasecond, but for everyday use, non-metric minutes, hours, and days are used, instead, and larger units such as weeks, months, and years.
Since the mean solar day and tropical year both vary slightly, the SI second was defined more precisely in 1967 as 9,192,631,770 cycles of the vibration of the cesium 133 atom.
For this reason, critics claim that truly metric time does not exist, and since the second is not a decimal fraction of the day, it also cannot be used as the basis of a decimal time of day.

grubaugh "synchronous retrograde orbit" (preliminary status)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-09)
Briefly, I think Grubaugh's calculations for "synchronous retrograde"ness have this effect, because of the fact that epicycles resemble elipses, but this will no dout be discussed further by Bass/Grubaugh if-and-when.
A graphic of the first 100 megaseconds, with the jupiter-saturn line depiced at 4-megasecond intervals, is available as a gif image.
The jupiter/saturn separation distance varied from 54 to 111 gigameters, and the angle from -28 to +11 degrees.

 KITP - Abstract
The Chandra megasecond observation of Cas A allows for a spectrum to be obtained from every pixel of the CCD.
The question of where to begin the analysis and the corresponding answers that can be gleaned from the data are potentially overwhelming.
I will discuss the method of PCA and how it is applied to SNRs, specifically the Cas A megasecond data.

Calendar - Bad Astronomy and Universe Today Forum   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-09)
It can for example be defined as 00:00:00 on 1 January 2000 according to the Gregorian Earth-calendar (some more significant date might be preferred).
Seeing that a sencond is such a very short time, we can possibly make use of longer time units based on the second, for example kilosecond, megasecond, gigasecond, etc...
We might as well define a specific Earth-year and a specific Earth-day and do away with leap years, if this is possible.

Session FB04 - Heavy Ions I: Exotic Masses and Near-Coulomb Energy Processes.
The measured generation of elements up to Z=82 (Lead) by high density protons or deuterons in host metals (Ni, Pd)[1] due to picometre distance, megasecond time, low-energy nuclear reactions [2] lead to a Boltzmann distribution exp(-Z/Z') of the generation probability.
The reproducable experiments of the generation of elements over the whole periodic table by protons or deuterons in host metals (Ni,Pd,Ti)[1] were motivated by the earlier theory of nucleus reaction distances in the picometre range at high coulomb screening [2] in the swimming electron layers of metal surfaces or interfaces [1,2].
The relevant debye lengths result in a cut-off of the coulomb repulsion of the protons at a radius in the picometre range and the reactions times are near the order megasecond.

Energy Citations Database (ECD) - Energy and Energy-Related Bibliographic Citations
Based on few reproducible D-D reactions, a reaction time near the range of megaseconds and a reaction distance of nanometers was concluded.
A splendid confirmation of the picometre-megasecond reactions was achieved by Li et al.
Li's application to picometre distance showed megasecond reaction times with no neutron or gamma emission.

The AEA calendar   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-09)
AEA date/times are measured in megaseconds, and can be broken into conveniant parts fairly easily thusly:
SF author Vernor Vinge is known touse it under varous names in his novels.
In what I would assume to be shear coincidence, Unix operating systems internally represent dates in a format that exactly corrosponds to the AEA calendar (tho it's in seconds, not megaseconds) (the so-called "time_t" format)

 Conclusions
Such instabilities could well be crucial for understanding the dynamics of radio-galaxy/ICM interactions.
Observationally, deep (megasecond) Chandra observations of the nearest radio-galaxy/cluster interactions might allow detailed imaging spectroscopy of fluid instabilities associated with the radio-galaxy/ICM interaction.
Furthermore, upon the launch of Astro-E2 in 2005, we will be able to directly probe turbulent velocities within the ICM of nearby (bright) clusters through broadening of their X-ray emission lines.

Here is an example of the PVM module being used to produce a temperature map of an X-ray cluster.
Additionally, the PVM module has recently been used to do a pixel-by-pixel spectral fit to the Chandra megasecond observation of the Cas A supernova remnant.
The PVM module also opens up the exciting possibility of parallelized fit functions and parallelized error bar searches.

S.J. Wolk (Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics), Chandra Orion Megasecond Project Collaboration
Arguably the most observed star forming region, the Orion nebula cluster (ONC) provides a large and relatively nearby sample of a pre-main-sequence stellar population that covers the initial mass function from brown dwarfs up to a 45 Msolar O star.
We will also present a first look at the nearly megasecond worth of data taken in January 2003 and discuss our approach to analysis of this mammoth data set.

When Lucas cast Ford in his next film Star Wars, the actor s professional woodworking days ended.
Adjusting to the Star Wars fantasy trip wasn t easy at first and Ford found the space-age dialogue (like, it'll take a megasecond for the nava computer to calculate the coordinates) difficult to say.
You feel silly at moments, shooting guns that make no sounds and flying in a plane, destroying battleships that you're unable to see because the special effects won't be done till months later.

Can you imagine McDonald's spending $60 million or $80 million a year on advertising and us giving them $3 million to advertise Big Mac in Russia or wherever?
This is one of those issues that if every single American were required to listen to the debate on this issue, I promise you, this $110 million would be torpedoed in a megasecond.
People would be appalled if they knew this sort of thing went on and particularly in light of the people we are cutting.
