Topic: Meketaten

Meketaten - "Protected by the Aten"
Alas, while Meketaten was fertile enough to conceive, she may not have been physically mature enough to withstand the stress of giving birth.
Nor is it insignificant that Meketaten's death marks the last appearance of Nefertiti before her sister's rise in prominence.
One object relating to Meketaten's life is an ivory painting palette which, like that of her sister Meritaten, came to rest in the tomb of Tutankhamun (KV62).

Meketaten: A Brief Biography   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-29)
Meketaten was the second daughter of Akhenaten and Nefertiti.
Meketaten died under somewhat mysterious circumstances late in Akhenaten's reign.
One theory is that Meketaten died in a plague raging across the Middle East at the time (Redford, 1984).

 Meritaten: Royal Daughter, Royal Wife
Following her eldest sister's footsteps, the 12 or 13 year old Ankhesenpaaten was married to the heir to the throne, the next Pharaoh of Egypt, the 9 or 10 year old Tutankhaten.
Princess Meketaten ("Behold the Aten" or "Protected by Aten") was born in year 2 or 3 of Amenhotep IV's (Akhenaten) rule.
Meketaten's death, while a crushing blow to the family, shaped the arguably no less tragic future of the dynasty.

 The Junior Princesses
She is shown with her sisters Meritaten and Ankhesenpaaten mourning the death of Meketaten in year 14, her two younger sisters, Nefernefrure and Setepenre, are missing from this scene and may have already died.
Nefernefrure ceases to be mentioned after year 14, and is not shown in the mourning scene at the death of Meketaten (neither is her little sister, Setepenre), and many conclude from this evidence that she predeceased Meketaten.
Neither she nor Nefernefrure are present at the mourning scenes at the death of Meketaten.

Ankhesenpaaten - Ankhesenamen   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-29)
The queen, the beautiful Nefertiti, would have the appellation Neferneferuaten added to her name; she was also pregnant with the royal couple's third child.
The girls were active children: Mayati was about five years old, Meketaten was probably about three or four, but her exact birth year is not clear.
he three eldest girls -- Meritaten, Meketaten, and Ankhesenpaaten -- were the "Senior Princesses;" as each was born she accompanied her parents in various statues and reliefs around the new city.

 The Royal Tomb At Amarna
Though no text provides the name of this princess, most assumed it to be Princess Meketaten because of the similarity with a scene in the last chamber (gamma) where she is named.
It has been suggested by some that the body depicted on the walls of chamber alpha in the upper register may actually be another royal lady, perhaps even Kiya, a wife of the king and a candidate for the mother of Tutankhamun.
The design of this canopy is associated with childbirth, and so it has been suggested that Meketaten may have died while giving birth to the child depicted in the nurse's arms.

 The Royal Tomb
Fragments of his granite sarcophagus and his canopic chest were found both inside the tomb and in an associated dump.
Interestingly in view of the prominence of Nefertiti at this time, there is insufficient space in the main burial chamber for it to have been intended for two sarcophagi.
Most of the cartouches in the main corridor and burial chamber were hacked out in antiquity, but the vast majority of the damage done to the 'Meketaten Annexe' occurred in 1931, when locals removed the plasterwork from the walls for sale on the antiquities market.

Nefertiti - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Nefertiti's famous bust is also thought to have been created around this year.
In an inscription estimated to November 21 of year 12 of the reign (1338 BC), her daughter Meketaten is mentioned for the last time; she is thought to have died shortly after that date.
A relief in Akhenaten's tomb in the Royal Wadi at Amarna appears to show her funeral.

Meritaten, Meketaten and Ankhesenpaaten are always shown as a trio.
There is no obvious reason for this and it would seem that it might not have been a 'mistake' as it happened at least thrice and maybe more that we don't know of.
Meketaten was buried in the royal tomb at Amarna.

His first daughter, Meritaten, was born soon after their marriage, and five more daughters followed; (in order by birth) Meketaten, Ankhesenpaaten, Neferneferuaten-ta-sherit, Neferneferure, and Sotepenre.
It seems he may have ignored warnings of threats to Egypt's security, and plague from Asia may have reached Akhetaten, for several members of his family died around his fourteenth year of reign, including Nefertiti, his mother Tiye who had moved to Akhetaten after Amenophis III's death, and his minor wife Kiya.
His second daughter Meketaten had died in childbirth soon before in the thirteenth year.

Meketaten - who was not only my sister, but my closest friend as well - and I were watching the shining water, the small villages by the banks of the Nile and the peasants working in the fields.
There was sadness in their eyes, and I knew immediately, before anyone could tell me, that Meketaten died.
I walked through the rooms of the palace, the walls were echoing my footsteps, the paths in the garden were covered with fallen leaves and withered petals.

Akhenaten's strange appearance and mysterious behavior, as well as his connection with Nefertiti and with the ill-fated "boy king" Tutankhamen, have made him the subject of much passion and controversy in the last century or so.
Meketaten died when she was about eleven of unknown causes, andNeferneferuaten-tasharit, Neferneferure, and Sotepenre followed shortly afterwards.
They were probably victims of a plague that was running rampant in Egypt at the time.

I'm leaning on year 13 or 14 for the epilogue (since Meketaten died around then) but that would mean Smenkhare was born in year 9 or 10 (since he was 2-3 years older according to you), when it is thought he was born in year 2 or 3 and Tut in year 9?
Perhaps I missed something or maybe you just decided to exercise your writing liberties, either way, you seem to remain pretty close to the timeline, including the death of Meketaten, which it seems you decided she did NOT die in childbirth.
All in all, you did a marvelous job depicting the nervousness and the distraught feelings of Kiya.
