No Life Til Metal - CD Gallery - makong delta
Since this is the first CD I had ever heard by Makong Delta it is impossible for me to comment on how it compares to other releases by them but according to other reviews I have read, The Music Of Erich Zann is one of their better and most consistent releases.
Mekong Delta are a German progressive thrasher band that are relatively unknown for reasons unknown to me. They play technical thrash with strong progressive and classical tendencies that is unlike almost any other band under the thrash moniker.
Mekong Delta create complex and intricate musical compositions that are at times quirky and chaotic, but never dull.

 Classic Thrash - Reviews - M
Loosely based on the theme of Vietnam war, the band's debut album Mekong Delta could be described as slightly technical speed/thrash, something in the realm of Living Death during their late eighties period.
Compared to the band's later, more refined and increasingly progressive releases, Mekong Delta is the most straightforward of the bunch and still holds some definite charm of its own.
However, despite the band's more complex ambitions starting to show up, the second Mekong Delta album still caters to the same audience who got attracted to the sound of the band's first release.

Thankfully Pillow with 'December Hymns', their debut album on the ecclectic Mekong Delta label, manage to ignore this fact completely and have created a sublime mix of tunes which are by turns both beautifully simplistic and charged with hypnotic musical endeavour.
Mekong Delta is a label well tuned into key bands from the area, including the very exciting Peace Burial At Sea.
A lot of bands have the songs in them to produce an album of this quality but the quality is lacking when it comes to recording them, this is where Pillow exceed.

An enormously influential band in the field of fl/occult metal, Celtic Frost arose from the ashes of Hellhammer.
The band had strayed somewhat from that sound, though the trademark drum rhythms, dark riffs, and angry vocals remained.

A Guide to the Progressive Rock Genres
Bands such as Jethro Tull, Van Der Graaf Generator and Family were defined by their vocalist's signature, some of them achieving great success especially in mainland Europe.
Bands that fall under the Zeuhl rubric vary from offshoot bands such as Weidorje and Zao, those with contemporary influence such as Eskaton, Potemkine and Eider Stellaire, to modern groups such as Xaal, Koenji Hyakkei, Ruins and Happy Family.
These bands are often considered close to the genesis of progressive metal or prog-metal due to their more overt inclusion of 70s symphonic rock influences in their style.

The Delta 5 (two men, three women) formed in the highly-charged petri dish that was the late-1970's Leeds, England punk scene.
Delta 5's "You" was on this CD, and through the benevolent assistance of executive producer Ruben Cerveza, I was able to get in touch with bassist Ros Allen.
But Delta 5's members came from more diverse backgrounds, and some were loathe to commit themselves to an obvious political stance (and we were never as intellectual as Gof4).

Frank Fricke then leaves the band to concentrate himself on other musical styles, and the band decided not to replace him as Uwe was able to play all guitars alone.

Get Ready to ROCK! Review of CD album by metal rock band Mekong Delta called Lurking Fear
I understand that this is a weird way of introducing an album to you, but this is the only way I can explain why a band which consists of four brilliant musicians such as Mekong Delta never managed to become anything more than a cult outfit.
The band's trademark style, combining hyperfast technical thrash riffs and clear high pitched vocals with classical arrangements, sounds like a possible source of influence for a number of bands such as Rage and Therion, yet I have never come across a band that has managed to reach the same standards set by the German quartet.
The opening track "Society In Dissolution" kicks off in a typical Mekong Delta manner, allowing a main thrashy riff to become the main musical platform on which the remaining musicians build some of the most technically daring and innovative ideas.

In those years Mekong Delta was led by the genius head of Ralph Hubert and played very speedy and hard Progressive Metal with a lot of diverse changes, very intricate arrangements and fantastically virtuostic solos from each musician.
A lot of bands never manage to approach this level of maturity and complexity, raised to the power of fine arrangements, shown by Mekong Delta on this album.
It is sad to know that while lots of Neo and pseudo Prog Metal bands enjoy success in general, including the success they have on the majority of virtual and paper Prog-pages, creations of the real hallmarks of the genre still remain unnoticed for all of "our" prog-sites, i.e.

MEKONG DELTA discography, MP3, videos and reviews
MEKONG DELTA emerged on the underground metal scene as a misterious band; the members - Jörg Michael (drums), Frank Fricke (guitar), Reiner Kelch (guitar), Wolfgang Borgmann (vocals) and Ralph Hubert (bass) - were under contract to other bands at different labels, therefore they could not reveal their true identities.
Without any commercial success MEKONG DELTA still had not given up hope and continued their work with the release of "Visions Fugitives" and "Pictures at an Exhibition", which was originally composed by Modest Mussorgsky.
The band is recommended to fans of technical metal bands such as WATCHTOWER, PSYCHOTIC WALTZ (Ralph Hubert produced their second album "Into The Everflow"), ATHEIST, CYNIC and VOIVOD.
