The Melbourne Cricket Club was formed in November 1838 and, after occupying three other sites, finally settled in 1853 on its present location, the now famous MCG.
In January, 1858, the MCC challenged any team in the Australian Colonies and a team from New South Wales accepted the challenge which was played on the MCG and was won by the visiting team.
The MCC fields four teams in the various levels of the Cricket Victoria Premier Cricket competition and also has one side in what is known as the MCC Club XI Competition.

The Melbourne Cricket Ground is an enormous sporting ground based in inner Melbourne, home to the Melbourne Cricket Club.
The open-air stadium is one of the world's most famous cricket venues, with a massively attended Test match held there every year, starting on Boxing Day.

Melbourne had been mentioned as having played against South Yarra in 1858, but it was the Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) that played the scratch matches between other teams, organised on the day of the games, by the captain and Melbourne Cricket Club Secretary in 1857-58, Tom Wills.
In the clubs early years, it was not allowed to play matches on the Melbourne Cricket Ground because the MCC thought that football would cause to much damage to the ground.

An MCC sub-committee chose the third because "the situation was quite as level as desirable yet afforded sufficient slope that without interfering with the game would ensure its always being free from floods".

"Kingston Cricket Club, I think, is recognising the fact that this is 2004 and that we are moving on and times change and we must move with the times," Ziadie said at the club's annual awards dinner to loud applause from club members and guests, including wives and female friends.
