The Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Trust (MCET) will market and operate the new 5000-seat convention centre, which will spearhead a major redevelopment of the city’s convention and exhibition precinct, the Minister for Tourism, John Pandazopoulos, announced today.
“The new convention centre, which will be integrated with the existing exhibition centre, will be a signature development on the banks of the Yarra and bidders will be encouraged to consider innovative designs and environmentally friendly building systems,” he said.
Mr Pandazopoulos said bookings were already looking positive for the new convention centre which would be a major drawcard for attracting major international and domestic conventions to Melbourne.
