Melbourne's tram route 55 starts at the Domain Rd Interchange, which was constructed as a Federal Government Bicentennial Project in 1988 to keep route 55 trams clear of St Kilda Rd services while shunting.
At Victoria St, route 57 to West Maribyrnong is crossed, then trams run in open reservation until Flemington Rd and the junction with route 59 to Airport West is reached on the Western side of a very large roundabout, where route 19 to North Coburg can be seen on the right.
Trams then stop at the Royal Park tram stop, which is a short walk from Royal Park railway station and the other Zoo entrance, and is situated between the Royal Park golf course's 2nd hole tee area and the 9th green.

Melbourne's tram route 57 starts at the Sir Robert Risson tram terminus on the corner of Flinders and Elizabeth Sts which is a two track terminus with seating accessible via a scissors crossover, only two exist in Melbourne.
Trams then pass under the Flemington Racecourse branch railway, then the Royal Melbourne Showgrounds, which hosts the Royal Melbourne Show each September, then turn into Union Rd Ascot Vale and pass a siding provided to store trams for Showgrounds and racecourse events, though it is rarely used these days.
The siding has not felt the weight of a tram for some time and it would be extremely risky to allow anything heavier than a scrubber to enter it.
