		Melchior was not formally christened until she was about seven years of age, as no priest of the church had visited the town in the interim and none was accessible except at considerable distance.
		Melchior is a devoted member of the Catholic church, and was active in the parish work of St. John's for many years, until the infirmities of advanced age demanded that she rest from her labors.
