The Yazidis consider Melek Taus to be a benevolent angel who has redeemed himself from his fall, and has become a demiurge who created the cosmos from the Cosmic Egg.
Taus is uncontroversially translated "peacock"; however, it is important to note that peacocks are not, at least currently, native to the lands where Melek Taus is worshipped.
This has led some to speculate that the worship of Melek Taus was imported from India, though it is more likely the peacock iconography is a development from earlier representations depicting the god as a native fowl, such as a bustard.

Hence the Yazidis believe that Melek Ta’us is the representative of God on the face of the Earth, and comes down to the Earth on the first Wednesday of Nisan (March/April).
In this process, their devotion to Melek Ta’us is essential, since it was he who was given the same choice between good and evil by God, and chose the good.
Besides Melek Ta’us, members of the Heptad (the Seven), who were called into existence by God at the beginning of all things, include Sheikh Adii Ibn Mustafa, his companion Shaikh Hasan, and a group known as the four Mysteries, Shamsadin, Fakhradin, Sajadin and Naserdin.

Lucifer is known as Melek Taus, the Peacock Angel, to the Yezidis; and in direct contradiction to traditional Christian (even Muslim) theology, he is not viewed as in any way "fallen" or evil.
In fact, this Melek Taus is looked upon as a great and mighty Archangel; the Archangel who is responsible for the creation of this mundane sphere out of the pieces of the Primal Pearl or Cosmic Egg.
Melek Taus, the Great Archangel of the Yezidis, is generally depicted (as far as outsiders know) in the form of a Peacock symbol, which is also presented in the form of a bronze sculpture revealed to believers during their holy festivals.

 The Lucifer Mask, Chapter 2
Melek Taus is, in effect, the creator of the Earth in Yezidi myth-cycles, shaping it from his own essence and from portions of the Cosmic Egg.
You see, the hate and rage and pain of Melek Taus had been burned into the mask, the negative feelings he was filled with after his fall seared into the very molecules of the metal, and these were things he could not take back with him to Paradise.
Everything that was evil about Melek Taus was in that mask as well as some small portion of his power, enough so that the mask was a threat to humanity as a whole and the Yezidi in particular.

As Melek Taus, the Blue God is the twin of Lemba, the Lord of the Green Flame, also known as the Living Serpent.
Anton Szandor LaVey had no compunction about identifying Melek Taus with Lucifer/Satan, and in his "The Satanic Rituals" there is a chapter on an alleged Yezidi homage to Satan, which has been called an outright fraud in scholarly articles in Denge Ezidyan, the official (German language only, unfortunately) publication of the Yezidi religion.
The identification of Melek Taus with Lucifer is also questionable, because that identification is drawn from texts of the 1800's, when the Yezidis were first discovered by Western travelers.
