Melonpool is a collection of characters created by Steve Troop who's adventures have been portrayed through both puppetry and in a long-running webcomic.
For most of its history Melonpool was a daily webcomic in fl and white (not grayscale), with a simple line art/India ink art style and 4-panel format reminiscent of classic newspaper strips such as Peanuts and Calvin and Hobbes.
In 2002, Jalea's body was destroyed and her mind uploaded into the ship's computer during the "Zinoforming" process to make an asteroid Mayberry had got the ship stranded upon hospitable for the crew.

Indeed, Melonpool and Zortic themselves ended the crossover by quoting Shatner in a dozen different episodes and movies, in what has to be one of the most logical and yet unsatisfying crossovers I've encountered.
Melonpool could have easily represented the Trekkies and Zortic the other faction...
Things have wrapped up though, and Zortic and Melonpool are going on their separate ways.

It may be premature to rank Melonpool up with Calvin and Hobbes and Bloom County, but they're certainly in the same league.
While the book is a very nice collection of the comic strip, it's primary value is as a scrapbook of the evolution of an idea from it's barest form, through all it's growth, to its fully realized final form.
Not only does Troop provide us with glimpses at the earliest days of Melonpool (in the Palomar College Telescope), but most of the strips (or series of strips) are heavily commented by the author, giving us a rare glimpse directly into the creative process.

This is a much earlier return than Troop's earlier assessment, where he made no guarantees of his return to webcomics at all.

Upon entering the site I noticed a blue background with a white swirl and a handful of cartoon characters starring back at me. Immediatedly I read through the archives and was hooked from there on.
You would think Steve Troop (the creator of Melonpool) would have gone with the cliche plot where aliens land on Earth and destroy everything in their path, including that lone flower.
At the moment, there are 5 books and contained within each book are several personal notations and reflections from Troop while creating each strip, something he created while in college, and other extras that you won’t see on the web site.

When I stumbled upon Melonpool 5 years ago it was the result of a random Yahoo!
Typing feveriously (65 WPM and chicken peckin’) at my keyboard I came up with something along the lines of “aliens and hampsters.” Why I linked these two together I’ll never know, but lo and behold the first link on the list was Melonpool.
I sat there for a couple minutes wondering what a Melonpool was and decided it would be best to investigate the matter by clicking the link.

The Flash movies are still coming, but I'm trying to work out a few sound issues that have stalled them again, and I'm too antsy to not be creating things.

The beauty of making the antennae this way is that when performed around kids, you don;t run the risk of poking out an eye like you do with wire antennae because the vinyl is really soft and pliable, but has really good memory to it.
First of all, your character designs are just incredible and they translate really well to 3D.

(It might drive Steve crazy to know that this cartoon was the first Melonpool strip I ever saw, considering that the characters weren’t exactly typical in that strip, and there was a certain amount of backstory needed to understand it.
I think if Melonpool hadn’t been so much fun to read, I might not have been so heavily inspired.
To me, it was a comic that should have been mainstream, that should have launched a thousand TV specials and merchandising deals, that should have been discussed at the water cooler in every office.
